Default speed sensor is not working

i have a 97 civic ex with a jdm d15b. and i used my stock tranny with the motor.
and now my vss is not working, iv already tried replacing it with a brand new sensor from autozone and i took one out of my friends 94ex. neither would work.

what would you guys think the problem would be? i need to get this fixed so i can get vtec back.

Sounds like a wiring issue.
