Default speed sensor issue

I know my speed sensor was acting up. So I went to a junk yard and replaced the sensor. Never worked. So I ordered another one from a dealer, which looked to be in good condition, and attached it, never worked either. I put my original one back in, that was working off and on, and it worked fine for like a day or 2. Now is shot. So I'm wondering if its possible that something in the transmission that turns or engagaes the speed sensor is broken or if I just bad luck with getting non-working speed sensors?

I think this is the solution, but make sure the drive link is installed.

if it was the drive link it would have worked when he replaced the vss (new/different drive link)
the only common items are the cluster and the connector
start with the connector

I agree. Just wanted to make sure this important part was not overlooked.
