Default SOunddeadening weight in an EK.

I recently got a 98 hatch, and one of the first thing i did was pull the carpet and remove the sound-deadening(i also found a dead mouse under the carpet!!!) Damn salvage yards lol. I put it a rubber trash can and weighted the can after i got all the interior deadening and all in all it weighted 20lbs. I also removed the remaining A/C lines since most of it was missing (again, this was a theft recovery) so now the damn ek weights the same as a stock 92 SI with all the options. I also removed the heavy chassis re-enforcements under the carpet (hope i didn't alter the rigity of the car...have to get a floor brace if soo...advise)...

Those floor braces are to keep the car from crushing like an aluminum can when you get broad sided.....suggest you put them back in.

judging by what your saying(saying your car weight compares to a 92 si), whats the weight of your car? did you weigh it? if you did post your numbers.

On avg, EK's usually weigh less than 100lbs than comparable model EG's. This has been discussed at length in this thread. Or you can view the summarized data in this spreadsheet.

aCk... I had an old spreadsheet up on my FTP site. I've revised it to add all the current data from the EG/EK weight thread. It's all current now

I used the weight given in a Honda brochure handed out for that year civic (99-00) and the one i got back in 95 of actuall curb weight of the SI

The EK weight 45 lbs more with only AC than the fully loaded 92 civic SI

i removed it with a screw driver, little bit of gasoline mixed with little bit of engine oil, and worked like magic!

So i guess i was going by the 94 wieghts instead of the 92.... 92 is lighter by 64lbs wow thats alot!

Just for all you guys that still dont know...
92 Si Hatch back = 2326 woops guess i didnt factor in the airbags and crap.
94 Si Hatchback.... = 2390 lbs curb wieght
98 hatchback DX = 2339 lbs 5spd curb wieght
98 hatchback CX = 2295

96 civic 4dr DX = 2319 BUT know my car wieghs 2240 with 1/4 gas tank

sorry to resurrect a dead topic but i read the actually curb weight as listed on both of the cars so that i had some idea what kinda og "heavy ***" Ek i was gonna buy. The car has an ls/vtec and most of it's intended parts and it is pretty damn light... so??? just look in a brochure from honda and campared the overall curb weight in lbs.... all the hybrid postings allwasy said " an eg chassis with the similiar swap will usually out run the heavier EK"
