sound deadening removal = rust?
im trying to scrap some weight on my 96 cx, even though its already pretty light, but anyways i want to remove the sound deadening material, but i don't want to paint over it for weight reasons, but will it rust if i just take off the sounds deadening material and then just put the carpet back in?

It will still rust if you put carpet, and why get rid of it if your going to put carpet over it, where is the common sense in that player! Just paint it, I don't think that paint weights that much...

i never said that 15lbs.=3000 hp, but i can assure you that you have noticed the weight difference in riding by yourself and with a passenger, its a hell of a difference, so im trying to shed enough weight to where the car would be like have me not in it, so about 165 pounds lighter
lol i can hear aerosmith in the background now........."dream on, dream on, dream onnnnnnnnnnnnnn" lol but i can try

Re: sound deadening removal = rust? (young noob)
When I removed my tar, the metal was primed underneath the tar, so if you don't scratch that you're probably alright. It wouldn't hurt to paint it just to be sure.
And every pound counts, especially in a Civic.
