Default Sorry to bother you guys but I'm having an axle issue

Hey guys, just had a minor issue I was hoping you all could help me with.

Car: 95 Civc Dx 5speed
Issue: Axles are too short.

I've had my Civic for about 2 months now, and when I bought it, it seemed to be virgin (accept for a short ram intake, as far as I know that's is the only modification to the car). About a month ago a CV boot tore and started vibrating and clunking, so I bought an "exact fit" new axle from Advance Auto, which turned out to be about an inch short, and all the others axles they had were the same length.

Is this a common issue?
Could the transmission in my car have been replaced?

I did search the forums but didn't have any luck, maybe someone could point me in the right direction? I'm going out to look for the transmission numbers in a little bit here, so hopefully I can get this taken care of. Especially since I am taking her on a road trip from Baltimore, MD to Denver, CO in 2 weeks in which I will attempt to endurance drive it the whole 22 hours without stopping except for food and gas of course. So far my personal record is 15 hours to Florida.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

So the markings on the transmission say:

D15B7
4127927 (I think?)

Barcode:
C5F
P20

Sorry for the s**t pictures, my phone sucks.

Is the axel fully seated in the trans side ?. you have to kinda ram it in, then inset the spindle side the splines fit correct ?

It's fully seated, lock ring worked great, splines are perfect, it's just an inch too short. I went to get a different one at Advance Auto, it was an inch too short as well. I read on another forum that a dude had the same issue, and ended up having to pick through their stock until they found the right length. The conclusion they came to was that he ended up with a 88-91 civic axle and the manufacturer just threw whatever in a box. But the post was from 2007 I believe.

Could that be the issue? I just want my baby riding smooth again.

just thought id tell you the the d15 mark is the engine code, but how much shorter was the new axle? what part is shorter, the actual axle or the spline that goes through the wheel bearing?

The boot at the transmission is stretched. I slid it in the trans, gave it a good shove, made sure it was tight (one time I replaced an axle on a sentra I had and tore the seal at trans, and didn't realize it til the next morning when I saw fluid everywhere so I make sure everything is in and right), when I put it in the hub, I had to push it through to just grab the thread with the axle nut, and I thought, there's no way this axle will last more than a month like this, somethings up.

what it looks like at the trans:

what it looks like at the hub:

Did u put it up against the old axle to verify they are the same?

I would return it and go somewhere else if they cant give u the correct size.

Yeah, it was like an inch and a half short not compressed. I'm on the way to get one now. Wish me luck!

Just drove 30 mind to pick up an axle. Compared it with the old one, seemed to be perfect! I will installing it later today, I'll let you guys know my results, if you're interested!

Oh and so you guys think it's best to pop the knuckle off at the ball joint or unbolt the strut?

Remove both the strut and pop off the ball joint, and good luck with the new axle
