Default soooo that D build failed!

Sooo... 20 minute idle + 45 miles of careful breakin lead to this:

Yes, I realize I should have stopped, but where I was lacks cellular coverage from any carrier other than Globalstar and Iridium. I was also pretty pissed off.

I haven't torn it down yet. After the bearing(s) spun, I drove 8 miles back to civilization - then proceeded to get pulled back to my house (30 miles) by a Hyundai Santa Fe LX and a strap, in the rain, in the dark (FAIL!).

Sooooo, I think I'ma be looking for new rods and crank. The block was quite sexy and the compression was good after the 20 minute idle and 7 miles of gentle driving.

In hindsight, I think I should have replaced the oil pump.

So, anybody in TX, LA or AR want to sell me a D16 bottom end?

YOU DID AN ENGINE REBUILD AND USED THE OLD OIL PUMP.
Shame on you, you deserve all you got.

Ouch. I have a D15B7 long block in the garage but I was gonna freshen it up for a spare.

I wouldn't call it a rebuild - more just a "bearing swap, ring replacement, and a new head gasket"...

I didn't want to go through the effort of pulling the engine. The weather sucks and I have no decent place to work. Guess that excuse didn't impress the Honda Gods enough to cut me a break.

I mostly did this in hope it would survive until late spring when I intended to do a complete teardown and rebuild w/ machine work. No go.

Luckily I have secondary transportation, its just less fun and sucks gas (everything sucks gas compared to an EG, I was getting 38-40 mpg before the rod bearings gave out the first time).

This was an experiment in doing as little as possible, and it (almost) worked. I was banking on chemical breakdown of the bearings from sitting 7 years with used oil in it. I suspect the actual problem was insufficient oil flow.
