Default Something is going, starter or batter?

99 Civic Si, coming up to 100,000 miles. Went to gas station, filled up, turn ignition on, and all I heard was a bunch of rapid clicks. Wouldn't start up. Turned everything eletrical off, radio, lights, blower was turned off, pretty much anything that has an on switch. Turned key again, same thing. Had to push start the car. Just got done replace plugs and wires and Cap and rotor. Lights do turn on, alarm does arm, radio does play. Drove the car home cruising at high RPMs to cycle/charge the batter just in case it was the battery. Got home, turned car off, said a prayer, the turned ingition on, it started over.

What is it? Don't want to be left stranded somehwere one day. Starter, ignition coil, or battery? Anyone have any idea? Battery is 4 years old

actually, sounds like the battery to me. a clicking starter is usually a starter that isnt getting enough current from the battery (i kno this cuz ive drained my battery tons of times). have u ever repalced the battery before? ive had to replace the battery in my accord (120kmi) twice already (damn me and my audio)

Sounds like the starter . What you are describing sounds like the same thing that happened when I had my escort. yes, I had an escort... leave me alone. Someplace like an advanced auto will check your ignition system for free. I think that Sears will do it for about $10.

It does sound more like a starter that is not getting enough juice. I would first check all of the connections for corrosion, and then move onto the battery.

Question, does a starter slowly go out, or does it just go out?

Cause once i got the car home. Turned it off, and turned it back on, it just started right up. I keep doing starting it and it keeps starting. Don't want to think there's no problem and one day I'm stuck out

Same battery as when I bought the car new back in August of 99. Wishing it was just the battery, hoping it is, what do you guys think?

Battery is good.

So, does a starter just go out, or does it slowly go out? Never happened before, and the car starts fine now. Should I just go ahead and change it or was it just a fluke? Don't want to spend money unless I have to? if I was to change it, the whole starter or just a certain part of the starter? What does the starter assembly consist of. Damnit, wish HELMS would get there Civic Helms back in stock. Someone please help.

If you have access to a volt meter you can do a voltage drop test, which I would strongly recomend you do before you shell out money on something that may not fix your problem. I was a manufactures rep. for an Alt./Starter remanufacturer and had to teach clinics on diagnosing starting and charging system problems. If you would like me to walk you through the voltage drop test IM me and I would be glad to help you out.Good Luck

I think its your battery, Even if not you should change your battery anyway if its 4 years old. But it sounds like your battery.

sounds like a starter issue...you might want to check not the just the battery, but the connections too, to see if they are "loose", just a thought...good luck
