The curb weight of the car is measured with no gas and no one in the car.

The car off the show room is what I am referring to.

GVW shoudl be the car with a full tank of gas and the maximum payload the car can handle.

Yeah, possibly. But what goes to say Honda puts 5 people that weigh 30 lbs or 5 people that weigh 300 lbs?

The vehicle gross weight on the door jam is the maximium load, the max load that is safe for the front and the rear!!!

that's what i'm trying to figure out.. I've "heard" that they consider the people to be 150 lbs each with 75 lbs of luggage each.. then again, civics have that center seat in the back.. so i wonder if they consider that as another 150 lbs person

Hmm did anyone read my post? It's the car plus the maxium payload. So let's say the car weighs 3000lbs. Lets say the GVW is 4500 lbs. Well that means you can have 1500lbs of gas, luggage, people, hippos, whatever you want up to 4500lbs. Get it?

:sigh: Ok let me try this one more time. Let's say your car weighs 2600lbs. Your GVW is 3440. Ok that means you have 840lbs to play with. You can use that for gas and whatever else you want. If you have lets say 20lbs of gas in the car, that means you have 820lbs left be it driver and 4 passengers that all weigh 164lbs or driver and 1 passenger who both weight 410lbs. Get it? Honda is testing the maxium payload, not how many people and luggage. Get your car weighed without you on a empty tank and then you will know how much weight you car can handle for gas, passengers, luggage etc....Or atleast what's recomended.
