heres the deal, im buying an engine from my friend for 200. its a d16 sohc vtec, its out of a 98 civic coupe and has 30,000 miles on it. He is selling to me for so cheap becase his dad got it from the dealership he works for, free. anyways, i want to know what kind of mods i would have to make to put this engine into an eg hatch. also id like to know how much one of these motors is worth. i gotta make a decision tonite so all your help is needed!

Assuming it came stock in the 98 Civic it came out of, it would need OBDII. As far as the value of one, it varies. They can be had for a bargain if someone is just getting rid of it, but a complete swap rarely costs more than 800 dollars.

piscorpio, you wouldn't happen to have a good source for d16 swaps at that price would you? My engine just got trashed...

Dunno...but 200 bucks for a SOHC VTEC motor w/30,000 miles is not bad at all...I'd pick it up. Also, i believe it's a direct bolt on and all you'd need is your VTEC wired...unless you have an SI or VX...someone correct me if i'm wrong

Sorry, I do not. Most of my shopping consisted of bargain hunting the honda-tech classifieds. You can also try thepartstrader.com, but may want to find someone local to you, as I have heard of quite a few bad transactions/scams go down on there. You can also check with local shops. There may be someone swapping in a B series who needs to unload their old d16, I had a couple of opportunities pop up this way, and its sort of how I ended up getting my transmission. You can also try some online engine dealers, hondamotorsonline.com seems to have a good reputation, but I am not sure they would carry d16's.
My little bit of experience tells me that you will likely pay more for the swap if buying from a shop or engine dealer, than you would buying from a private party looking to clear junk out of his garage. Good luck in your search.

I agree, assuming the engine is in good shape, 200 dollars is a good deal, even if it does not include transmission and ecu. And yes, it should be a pretty straightforward swap, no cutting or welding or special mounts involved.
