Some questions about Civic
Okay, so I got my new/used 94 DX HB, and I cannot be happier with the choice of car, this thing kicks serious a$$.
First, nothing works on my rear window on the hatch. Defrost, brake light, it won't even open with the key or the latch inside the car. What the F could be going on?
Also, I have 17" wheels on there right now which the seller said ahead of time he want's back, and gave me 2 options. I can either get my old 17" wheels back from my Accord that I gave him - https://honda-tech.com/gara...=2785, but that means I need to buy adapters or have them custom drilled at $200. Or he said he can get me a set of SI wheels with tires. Can you advise me on which would work best with this car?
Thank you all, you guys know your $hit with these cars. I'm learning though.

Re: Some questions about Civic (wagonis)
First things first: check your fuses for the stuff on your hatch.
Second: Si wheels looks MUCH better than any 17" wheel on a hatch.

Re: Some questions about Civic (IC33)
Right now with the 17" I have on it, it handles like a go-cart, love the way it moves. Will the handling suffer from the smaller wheels? Or will it be the same pretty much?

I was always under the impression that when it comes to wheels, bigger is better. Can you guys explain why that is not the case?

Re: Some questions about Civic (wagonis)
bigger heavier wheels take more power to turn which will make you slower, the only advantage (if u wanna call it that) is you can get more speed out of them and possibly enhance gas mileage. Pro: becasue they are wider they have more contact with the ground and could possibly have your car handle a little better.
Smaller lighter wheels, will improve acceleration because they are smaller and lighter and take less power to turn. Con: Very slight differnce in gas mileage (still better than the 13's) and your top speed would be like 3 mph difference over the 17s or 13s. You can get 15s in a pretty decently wide tire so your not sacrificing anything.

Damn, and I really liked the way these 17's looked on there too. There are too many pros to having 15's instead of 17's. Oh well, guess i'll go with the SI rims.
Thanks guys, you are all a big help with this car so far.

Re: Some questions about Civic (wagonis)
yea, welcome to H-T.
My personal preference would be the SI rims, one because you don't have to waste time drilling or offsetting or whatever to make them work.
I think a lot of reasons people go with the 15's, is not because of performance and etc because I doubt you will notice a huge difference in that department......but for the same reason that Member's Only jackets are back in style.....know what I mean....
I had 17's on my hatch once, but now I have a set of 15" black powdercoated GSR wheels and it looks way better than the 17's ever did.
Just personal preference. But in your case, it sounds like making the 17's fit would be a pain.
Plus you can grab the SI rims, and down the road, buy whatever you want and sell the SI rims fairly quickly.

Re: Some questions about Civic (92civicb18b1)
Yup, seems like 15's are the way to go. I'd trust your opinions as you all seem to know your $hit. You guys are with Hondas as I am with Chevy, and for the last 2 years Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique. The guy did offer me 18's, but that's way too much for the DX, or any Civic for that matter.

Re: Some questions about Civic (STPREZ)
Actually, the car has been lowered, and with the 17's on it, there is about an inch and a half clearing between the tires and the fender lip on all 4 corners, so the car is still siting lower then you average Civic would. I'll try and get some pics tomorrow so I can post them up.

Re: Some questions about Civic (STPREZ)
Yeah, that's kinda pissing me off, that I rub on every fu(king thing on the road that is taller then a 2 X 4 laying flat. I have the Koni adjustables, I just didn't get a chance to raise the car since I only have the car 2 days so far.

Re: Some questions about Civic (wagonis)
17" will always look better than 15" and it better to deal with the rubbing than scrapping ur car on the ground and getting stuck on speed bumps witch happens sometime with low pros on 15" my cousin has that problem but if u a performance person like me u will switch to the 15"s plus 15" tire are alot cheaper and longer tread were

Re: Some questions about Civic (STPREZ)
Yeah, i'm going with the 15's, only problem is that I don't know if this guy still has the Si rims. I listed my Dials 17's in the classified and maybe I can rid of them and buy some 15's.
I am also still trying to find some one with a CARFAX account to look up my DX. It has 23 records according to CARFAX, and my account just expired last week. I'mnot trying to sound cheap, but this would be the 3rd time I would pay to reactivate the account, and I can't see doing that for just 1 car, now that I am done car hunting.

Re: Some questions about Civic (wagonis)
You don't have to limit yourself to SI wheels. A lot of people said get the SI wheels because it was either those or the 17s. Rota makes durable, light weight replicas of some really nice rims. Just look around, find something you like.
