Default some input, possably starting project

I have an 93 si hatch, that is all stock. I would like to take the d16z6 out and put another motor in it. friend of mine suggested this. gsr bottom end with a b16 head. it sounds like a good plan to me, but i might add a cam and upgrade the valve train like a stage 1 or 2 cam. i am not looking to make a drag car. would like this car to be a dd. than comes that hole freaking money thing. just looking for some input.

if you're looking for something cheap and not 250+whp, i'd just get a gsr and build that head. or if you want a lil extra power, get an ls crank and rods as well. whats your price range? personally, for you, i'd just get a gsr. run that for a while. and slowly mod it. unless you can come by an ls and turbo kit at a super cheap price, cuz thats some nice power. what are your power goals, theres a million things you can do. price and power goal?

The B16 head will make you lose power on a GSR bottom end. You'll lose compression and the only upside is a very, very slightly better flow from what I've read. The intake is a better design for top end power, but the JDM GSR engine has that style intake...

Do your own research on engines. We all have ideas of what we want and there is no "best" answer here, it's all preference. I'd be willing to give up power for handling, others may want more power at any cost. Some may want lots of bottom end, others may just want gobs of power up high in the RPM range...

thanks for all the input all things to consider. thats intresting, i thought that b16 head on a gsr block would increase the compression. doesn't the b16 head have a smaller combustion chamber? please correct me if i am wrong, because that was the road i was thinking of taking. how about ls block with b16 head? the ls is a good motor but i figured the car is already wired for vtec why not use it. an ls would be nice in the eg but i am looking for more.

ls-vtec is good choice (ls block, b16 head). any b series vtec head will due, so if you find one way cheap over others, just go with that. don't be hooked on jdm or type r. cause when you modify it, they're all almost the same.
