Default Some basic questions.

I looked around here on the forum and online, I could not find what I was looking for. I have a 1992 civic hatchback with a d16b, im looking for simple swap out parts just to give it a lil more spunk. I am a complete nube to hondas, I hate to ask stupid questions but I have to start some where. Intake manifold and other simple swap out parts would be appreciated. I do know about CAI and exhaust. Any positive feedback is appreciated

what trim is your hatch? no such motor as a d16b. D15b is a jdm vtec motor, you probably have the d15b7 which is non vtec 1.5 liter.

If your bottom end is good find a VTEC head and do a mini-me

mini me is not a simple start. find some cheaper headers, a decent intake and a good cold air pipe and filter.

i am wondering if someone has swapped motors at one time or another

I doubt he has a motor that runs on natural gas, in a 1992 hatchback.

but thats the neat thing, its a simple conversion from one to the other, and everything bolts up.

the block and heads are the same, just a different intake, fuel injection system, and computer.

That's a D15b2 or D15b7. Same motor just different years.

Head swap is really not that hard, but if your motors got high mileage on it I'd just swap a y8 or z6 in. You can find them good condition for like $200-$300, much more HP than you'll ever get with bolt ons.

1.5 non vtec wont get any power out of anything unless you do a mini-me, or turbo. and since you new neither sounds like the best idea. i would just let it be, relax and gain some knowledge then make some changes. think of it as a chess match.

b16a or 16c? there is not a 16c i am aware of, there is a b18c which would be a GREAT motor to build compared to the b16.

if he plans on completely rebuilding or tearing down the b20 then yea its not a bad choice. a b16 or gsr are more reliable out of the box when it comes to performance.

what are your goals for the car? drag, auto cross, daily driver mileage getter? that will help you make decisions on what motor to run with, how to build it etc. do you want high HP as with a turbo or do you wanna turn some R's with a NA setup? there is alot to consider.

honestly, id like to drie it till it falls apart. dd for now, add stuff as i go along. i want an all motor one for this, i like turbos alot but they can complicate tings sometimes. i mean it'll be wat money, time, and school will afford me to do.

my reccomendation (beings i am a student in college and work part time) is get another motor and do a side build on it over the next year or so. i am doing a 84mm sleeved gsr that will be making hopefully over 600whp someday. i have been saving and working on that block for 6 months now. i made my car fun and enjoyable for now, but know when i have the money i can really have some fun.
