sohc ZC vtec oil leaking near block stamp
ok so after a spirited drive this afternoon i noticed that oil over the block stamp. it's a sohc zc vtec motor.
just to be sure i cleaned it off and drove about 20-30 miles
and again there was oil over the block stamp.
i checked to see if there was any oil anywhere else but it's concentrated by the engine stamp and transmission case
i checked all around and noticed that there was also some oil behind the motor in small crevice between the distributor and the block.
here are some pictures. any help would be greatly appreciated.
(i did some research before posting so i know it could be the o ring, vtec solenoid, head gasket, etc) if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated
-not so mechanically inclined
Edit: thanks h-t. it was a the valve cover gasket/vtec solenoid

Head gasket.
Take off the valve cover and RE-torque your head bolts/studs to oem spec or arp specs if theyre studs.

Lol at the 2 hours for atf BUT you gotta start somewere.
I would still drive it checking your oil daily/weekly. As long as you dont starve your engine for oil youll be alright besides a dirty block.
Seen people replace head gaskets for this issue and still had the issue sooner or later. You might wana get a little more input from other people on here.
Were do you live?

LOOKS LIKE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET ON CYLINDER # 4, A COMPRESSION TEST AND LEAK DOWN SHOULD BE DONE TO CONFIRM THIS, HOW EVER IT LOOKS TEXT BOOK. KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

Resurface the the head, get an oem head gasket, and pick up some arp head studs...check your oil level often, and refill with engine cold, doing a refill while it's hot can cause further damage...If i had time, i'd do it, but I am really busy right now.

Another common thing that I've seen is the the o ring that is on the dizzy go bad, it looks the same, so clean it off well again, then drive it for a few mins. and check other places like vtec solenoid, and dizzy.

i had this same problem on my y8, and it took me a while to figure it out, but it ended up being my vtec solenoid gasket.... its hard to believe, but the oil dripped from the back of the head, under the dizzy, and on the block by the stamp just like yours... could be a dizzy o ring also... but my bet is vtec gasket... change that since its cheap, and see if that helps before dropping money and time into a head gasket replacement

I was gonna say start with the vtec solenoid gasket/screen and the dizzy o-rings first, always start with easy/cheap fixes first. Didn't seem to look like a head gasket to me.
