sohc vtec crossover 5400 rpm???
i have a 98 civic ex coupe with aem short ram. I usually dont rev it very high but i was on the highway in 4th gear and i noticed the crossover was very noticable and it was around 5400 rpm so i tried it in 3rd and every gear it is around 5400. i know it doesnt sound right and i thought sohc was supposed to crossover around 4200 so idk whats with it. there is not indication of crossover around 4k.... any reason why?

depends on how the motor was tuned from the factory. D16y8 motors crossover at 5400 rpm and redline at 7K. I always thought that d16z6 motors crossed over lower and i believe they redline at 7250, althoguh i'm not sure.

They do, D16Z6 stock with a stock P28 ECU has a VTEC crossover at 4.8K and redlines at 7.2k.

for SURE it's not 4600 for the stock p28 ecu, i've it on my EK w/ obd1 conversion, also have the VAFC2 so the green light will turn into red light when vtec crossover.
it's about 5400 rpm and fuel cut at about 7400 rpm

You'll never find a definate answer on here(I've searched a trillion threads before)...answers range from 4400-5500 and everyone believes that their answer is correct and everyone else is wrong.
Right or wrong...all I can say is my p28 is as stock as the day it came out of the factory...vtec hits at 5200 and redline at 7500.

Iono, I thought the D16Z6 crossover was at 4.8k.
Nobody knows for sure...somebody that's worked in a Honda dealership or something, there has to be an official spec sheet on this **** someplace...because no 2 pple have the same answer...

Re: sohc vtec crossover 5400 rpm??? (98ej8coupe)
my 98 EJ8 had a OBD2-OBD1 harness with a P28 from a Del Sol Si, and it would go into VTEC at 4600 EVERY TIME and redline at 7500.
With the OBD2 computer it was 5400 and redline at 7200.

That's what I thought too...but my tach will slam 7700-7800ish. I figured it'll be off so thats why I said my redline is 7500. But redline being at 7200? I have high doubts my tach will be 500-600rpm off. eh who knows?

Stop being a ****** and pick a side .
I still say 4.8k
5.6k is bullshit.
And for those who say "redline is at 7.5k"
I think you mean "rev limiter is at 7.5k"
Because factually, look at any 92-95 EX cluster, the REDLINE is at 7.2k...where the governor is at is a different story, I say it's around 7.3k or so since I can usually put it into the red zone a bit but the tach's off anywayz because honda stock tachs suck.
We need somebody in here that chips P28's, like the dude from pherable, or Kenji, they'll know for sure.

Everyone knows what is meant when someone says "redline"...no need to start another debate...and who's to say that Honda tachs "suck". There's still no proof of them being off...it's just a notion that everyone has and it's just lingering around the forums. Who knows...maybe they are off...but maybe they are perfectly accurate...that situation is about as known and the vtec engagement and revlimit on p28s
