Dont listen to this ignorant *****, for the money you would pay to swap in a B-series you could go d15b vtec turbo and row yourself past a b18c5 in a cx hatchback.
On a technical note:
The d15b vtec is a very good choice to go with, it consistently puts down stronger numbers than a d16z6, Revs like a b-series (exactly the same rod/stroke ratio of a b17a) and the stock cam could be considered the "type R" cam of the d-series, basically the same as the zex 59300 cam. Is it the best motor to put in your car... NO...but for the money, its like a sore dick, you cant beat it.

its not the best block for a pure race car
but your not building a pure race car
so..
its a good block, especialy for screwing around with since they're dirt cheap. godd for beginners
and yeah... they dont mind the boost, just upgrade the rods.

Re: SOHC VTEC (Devine)
Just out of curiosity......Are there many performance bolt-ons for d15b ? I might want to steer that way also...that is If I can dump a couple grand into a turbo and other mods...And slide past my buddy's GSR. Anyone know where one could get a turbo for it...or would you have to customize one?

Don't give up. Go the way of the boost. **** all them dohc suckas. (J/k) But seriously, don't worry about it. Budget boost is dope, cheap and surprisingly effective. A turbo on a d series sohc is faster than a b-series and FAR less expensive. http://www.turbod16.com will help and so will http://www.homemadeturbo.com.

I like my D15b7 (non-VTEC) but I seen the VTEC motor is crap. I raced like 5 of them and I smoked all of them by at least 4 cars each. All were in eg hatches or a CRX. All it is 1.5 VTECe (e=economy) that means less power than the z6.
Get a z6 if anything man. Or you can always find one of those rare D15b7's that smoke GSR's like mine.

You're an idiot.
The JDM D15B is a De-stroked version of the D16z6 with a more aggressive cam...HP output is slightly higher than the Z6. The motor you're thinking of is the D15Z1, the VX motor. That motor only puts out 92 HP and has a long-*** transmission geared for fuel economy not racing.
JDM D15B = D16Z6 for all intents and purposes.

read this thread for inspiration:

Re: SOHC VTEC (AzntaggeR)
that run also has alot to do with the 300 odd pounds that he shaved off his car...
try running the Q/M with two of your buddies in the car
plus his turbo is more geared towards drag racing, a to4... not very good for a tiny engine like this if you want it to spool quickly, you probably dont feel the power till you hit 4 grand or something.

i dont wanna sound like a noobie
but do all the D16Z6 parts fit the D15B?
Mainly the tubro kits,, are they a perfect match?

Re: (vtec.com)
IMO, save up for b-series, unless you want to go turbo and you know what you're doing.
I used to have a d16z6 in my old CX hatch, maxing out bolt-ons, clutch/fly set-up, etc etc etc. It was a quick car, but craps out at top of 3rd gear.
Now I have a b18c1, in a different car, but the pull is nice. Torquey, I dont have to downshift like I did with the d-series.
Man I miss my hatch.

Not to thread jack/be a n00b, but will the d15b cam work in the z6? Would it help out performance wise?

Re: SOHC VTEC (Uncle Ben)
i say work with the SOHC first... its already in the car.. with all the wires there and everything hooked up, if this is your first project id suggest you screw around with it first.
i say 270 + cam with higher compression, ecu upgrade, exhaust and intake manifold you can have a really quick car
THEN, when you learn more and realize more of what you want you can look at other options.
swaps are nice an all... but not for a first mod....
also dont forget D series weight something liek 100 pounds less than a b16..
for a fwd that much weight off the front is a nice thing... in corners anyway... but thats me, i like auto-x over drag any day.

ummm 300 pounds is like me runnin with only 1 friend in my car hahaha.
yes its a good buy- as many people have said before its almost exactly the z6, but with less displacement, better r/s and more aggressive cam. i say get it, then booooooost!! like you said you were going to. see if u can find one with the oem lsd tranny, i would be nifty to have, especially for boost
