sohc vtec
I need help. A friend of mine is selling a D15 SOHC VTEC engine. It came out of a 1995 civic vx. It also comes with the P07 ecu. Does anybody have the specs on this. # of HP and #lbs of torque. Would it also be a good investment? In other words can this motor BOOGEY? THanks

D15Z1
92 bhp @ 5500
97 lb-ft @ 4500
Redline: 7000 rpm
1493cc
4 cyl, 16 valve
SOHC VTEC-E
9.3:1 c.r.
PGM-FI (MPFI)
its a vtec-e engine, its not very powerful, but depending on how much he wants for it, and what you consider putting it in, it might be a good buy.

Re: sohc vtec (22lbGS-R)
thanks for your reply. he's selling the engine for $700 with 68000 miles on it. BTW do they sell a turbo kit for this application?

Re: sohc vtec (avscrx)
Don't even bother, that motor is pretty much garbage...The tranny has the most undesirable gearing...For that kind of money you can get a whole d16z6 swap...
Don't make a mistake, you'll definately regret buying that swap.
D16z6 Swap If you search long enough you can get them cheaper than $500.

700 is a big rip-off. i might give 250-300 for that engine/ecu. any d-series turbo kit will work, but you can get the good D16Z6 EX/Si engine for around 400-500. dont buy the VX engine
ha ha..... beat me to it. yeah if youve got that money layin around, buy a Z6 swap like the man said

Re: sohc vtec (avscrx)
the vx has the strongest rods of all the d15's (same as the jdm d15b) and you can eat your frosted flakes out of the pistons, the dish is so deap. what does all this mean you ask??
tell your buddy you want the block and interals. find a z6 head, and now you have a low compression engine with the best r/s of any of the single cam engines (i forgot to mention that the rods are longer than other d15 rods)... bolt on the turbo kit and have fun... dont forget to find a tranny from a z6 or y8
you should have to pay no more than 800 bucks for everything (other than the turbo kit)

How much access to new parts do you have in Guam? I used to live there so I know it can be hard at times. Don't buy that motor though. I just got a 2000 D16Y8 with tranny, axels, and ecu for $700. Putting that motor in wouldn't be worth the time and effort.

That motor is a waste of time and definately not worth $700. Even after a turbo, it is still sad. Also, just to get you thinking, if you strap a turbo on it and run about 6psi, you will be putting down about as much wheel horse power as a bone stock d16y8/d16z6.

It's really the head/tranny that suck, the bottom end with it's r/s ratio makes for a nice high spinning motor. I don't know about the piston dish on the VX, but if it's as low as was said, it'd make for a nice motor to boost on!

Re: sohc vtec (VTC_boost-less_CiViC)
VTC_boost-less_CiViC: is aparently the only one listening (or reading)
with a z6 head and 6 psi i bet it makes a bunch more power than an equally priced swap.. ie. a b16

On Guam there is a couple of shops that order parts on the off island. Other than that, you have the junk yards. BTW were you in the military stationed on here?

Re: sohc vtec (avscrx)
I'd also have to say it's way over priced.
Give $100-$200 for the long block and tranny, then find a SOHC VTEC head for about $300-$400.
Either way, I wouldn't turbo it. SOHC 1.5 motors, non-VTEC or VTEC, rods aren't very strong.

Re: sohc vtec (sohc_boy)
do you people not read?? the post i made above clearly states that the rods from the vx are larger that that of any other d15. they are compareable to the rods in a d16 in size, but they fit a 1.5 crank.
if you do a search.. mista bone posted a pic of a vx and dx rod side by side... you can see the difference there.
so that means the vx bottom end + 6-8 psi =
give your friend 150 for the bottom end, and look on ebay or in the classifieds for a head.

I don't understand why no one listens to the ONE person who knows what they're talking about in this thread. They just repeat the same things over and over.
