sohc nonvtec->sohc vtec. $how much$
My friend was wondering how much he should be paying for having a d16 put into his eg in place of his sohc non vtec? Both are obd1. I'm asking only about the labor, he already has the motor.
thanks.

$300-$600 at a shop.
Rent a cherry picker, have a whole day, and a manual. It easy to do it yourself.

it's basically a drop in swap. shouldn't cost more than like 300 in labor i would guess. but i cant say for sure.
everything plugs right in, the only tricky part is hooking up the VTEC

its actually a friend who was wondering and he doesn't have a garage, thats why he has to pay someone to do it. so you guys think 300 tops for labor if it is a random independent meechanic? eveenthough it isnt originally vtec?

If you're lucky.
It's easier to do a whole swap than to leave a tranny just sitting there. I've seen place do it that way. Much easier and faster, IMO, to pull everything out. Expect $400 at least. And ask if that includes fluids.
I'd also recommend, you have the flywheel checked, maybe resurfaced and with the clutch. And replace the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and water pump too.

if u were local id do it for 300 bucks in one day. things to buy before he takes it. new timming belt, waterpump, honda manual tranny fluid, honda brake fluid, new clutch and get the flywheel recerfaced, if your doing this in a 92 civic your firewall harness is already wired for vtec, so the mechanic would only have to trace the vtec wires through the firewall and then add them to the proper places on the engine. your looking at 100 for t-belt/waterpump 30 for honda fluids. plus labor. amd make sure the guy does the timming belt/waterpump out of the car. much cheaper.
