SOHC Mini-Me build
Alright so I'm replacing my d16z6 with a d15 block and of course keeping the head. I'm planning on building this thing n/a of course and I want to pretty much use oem parts. I'm going to also do the y8 i/m, get a cam, cam gear, etc. My current question is, what oem pistons would be best to use with this setup? Anyone that's familiar with this setup/swap, please PM me or IM me so we can talk. Thanks guys.

Re: SOHC Mini-Me build (e1even)
just wondering...why are you going with the d15 block?
|
Re: SOHC Mini-Me build (SOHC_MShue)
go with the d16a6 block
|
Re: SOHC Mini-Me build (e1even)
go with the h22 that you wanted to do originally. or just build the z6, and be cool like me https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: SOHC Mini-Me build (sohcvtec1995)
yea, im thinknig about just working on this engine. I'm eventually going to do a swap or sell the car when the time comes, but in the meantime, I'm going to work on this one. It's more practical for my poor college student's income.
For the other guy, the d15 block would raise compression i was told. ever heard of a minime? |
Re: SOHC Mini-Me build (e1even)
i know it raises compressio, but you will have a 1.5 liter block instead of a 1.6 liter
|
Re: SOHC Mini-Me build (SOHC_MShue)
but i will have more hp.

Re: SOHC Mini-Me build (e1even)
Whats a mini me?

I fairly certain the above post (BauleyCivic) contained a bit of sarcasm https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

a jdm d15b sohc vtec motor is basically a mini-me and it makes around the same power as the 1.6liter sohc vtec motors, but doesn't it have a little less midrange torque compared to the 1.6 liters? So you aren't really making more power. The only reason that I can think of why you would do this is maybe to get a better rs ratio, but i wouldn't really bother when you already have a complete d16z6. I dunno maybe bauley can comment on the benefits of the mini-me. What are its benefits over a 1.6liter sohc vtec motor? |
Re: SOHC Mini-Me build (SOHC_MShue)
bump

Re: SOHC Mini-Me build (SOHC_MShue)
It doesn't make any sense to my why one would swap a 1.6 block for a 1.5. Why would you do this? Keep the block and head you have and build it. You already have m4D vT3c yO! and a 1.6L block. I don't see any reason for you to do a mini-me w/ what you have.

1.5 block = better R/S ratio

Re: (infinatenexus)
yea thats what I thought, but in the long run is that really worth replacing your whole block when you already have a complete z6 motor in there?

regardless you still have weak ass rods that arent going to take excessive RPM's....if you are gonna build it just keep the 1.6L block and build it, get a new cam/cam gear and upgrade your valvetrain. |

Re: (JRI94)
I'm not switching out the blocks. I'm looking into putting that jspec d15 head on there tho with the d16z6 block. Anyone know about this?
|
Re: (e1even)
Help me out here everybody. Wouldn't this be about pointless? Pros/Cons?
