hey everyone,

i was wondering whats the best i could do with my SOHC (like turbo, pistons, cams, etc.) to get the best pickup on it..... or should i just swip it for a DOHC?

and also is there anyway to get VTEC in a non VTEC engine or you just have to buy a VTEC engine?

exactly wat i want is to have a 13 sec. daily ride, i figure 13 sec. might be the best i could get with a SOHC right? or could i actually hit 10? but i dont think so, i heard the combo of the hybrid pistons to handle 16-18 boost from HondaPanda and that was pretty good.... but is there any more?

and wat exactly is a boost bar? i dont understand that.... i know PSI but not the bar

what i want is 13 because i dont know if SOHC can hit 10, 10 being the goal of most people right? so i would be happy with 13, yes i know its a big jump but i was mostly just asking if SOHC can hit 10, can they?

pretty big expectations for a sohc. not sayin it cant be done. but its not common that you see a 10 sec sohc or even 13 sec ons.

I want to laugh but when I was a kid I used to think you could bore out a 350 to a 454.

10 seconds is extremely fast. 13 secs is pretty fast. I used this calculator http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/calculators/ to get some HP numbers.

For a 2500 lb car you need 375 HP to run a 10.99 ET and 180 HP to run 13.99 ET. And these calculators assume good traction which most FWD cars dont have.

If you didnt know 375 HP is a lot. 180 HP is a lot for 1.6L.

180 whp out of 1.6 is respectable but is not a lot. People put down more than that out of their cars by just slapping a turbo kit. But you made a good point.

ok it looks to me like a swap would be needed..... but which swap would be the best for my car (93 civic DX) without all the extra mounting? or no matter what im gonna need that? i heard a ZC engine is the best is that true? let me know

i wouldnt say the ZC is the best swap...but it bolts right in..and is pretty affordable ...and can be b00sted easily .

I was working on 900 Hp 2.65L V8's......now that's a lot of horsepower per liter!

hey but for a 1/4 mile isnt all torque and lil hp? i know torque goes up with the hp but isnt it the torque that does the work for the line which you need the most?

Its better to make the most torque you can at the highest RPM....that way you can use gearing to your advantage.

Desiel engines don't spin very fast, but make lots of torque...but you don't see them winning at the drags.

Build the strongest and lightest rotating assembly for a engine, so you can spin it as fast as you can, so you can make torque up high! That gives a lot of power and speed.

Youre right of course. 180 HP is not an unreasonable goal for our cars. But it does take some work and money. Turbos arent cheap. Also 180 HP is a lot for a kid who I believe doesnt know all that much about cars. Not being a hater just an observation. Luser start off small and work youre way up.

Also a bar = one atmosphere. One atmosphere=14.7 psi. Therefore one bar=14.7 psi. Giving pressure in bars is usually a European car thing. Are bars metric?

well im not a beginner on cars, just engines...... which i know is the most important part but when i took autoshop my teacher just taught us how to take things out and put them back, know what i mean? so engines yea im new at, but intake, exhaust, headers, electronics, etc. i got down.....

If you have the urge to build a single cam, do it. Pistons, rods, valve train, cam, cam gear, intake, header, exhaust, high flow cat, intake manifold(port-matched), port and polish head, throttle body, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail, and if you wanna spend more. Boost and juice. Also have your fuel management togther or you'll blow it up instantly. Never rush. Take your time and do it right. Make sure it is tuned right or it'll disappoint you every time. But if you don't want to go thru all that work. Do a quick swap and only half of all that work. B18C5 is your #1 choice. B18C1 and H22 are your next in line. B16 is your last resort as for budget wise. The only thing you really have to think about is $$$$$$$$.
