since I assume you have only one header and you plan to drive mostly on the streets, and I'm in a good mood, here's a few good ones for the street:

comptech

apexi

dc sports

edelbrock

prices should be in the $300-$500 range

deffinitally get dc sport header.. best ones you could get. Just make sure that there are as clean as you can get them before you start the car or apply any heat ok.. If dirt and grease is on there. the heat make the **** stick on there for good.. Price range is about 345 -355 for the single 4-2-1 header.. good luck bro

I'm running a Kamikaze 4-1 on my D16.....it's decent, but I got it for free. Would be better on a SC'd engine tho.

I'd go with a 4-2-1 design...Greddy or DC preferrably

Can't go wrong with DC Sports. I wouldn't say it's the best, but it isn't too bad. I had the 4-2-1 2-piece, and the quality was spectacular with excellent fit and finish. I now have an A'PEXi GT header, and it's also good. But if you're from CA, it might make it difficult for you since it has no CARB number. (I passed smog just fine with it, though, when I tested in Sacramento.) I bought mine for $315 shipped off a vendor from Group Buy Center, so browse through there for some deals. Or you can just check around H-T classifieds or H-T sponsors.

i had a DC Sports 4-1 in my old sohc hatch. Cheap, decent quality, pretty good gains compared to the other brands.

When you go to get your emissions checked, do they ask you to pop the hood? If so, is there any chance of slapping the stock heat shield over an aftermarket header or are they gonna be way too big for that?

They always pop the hood for emissions. They never said **** about my aftermarket header(s) for any of my cars. This is Northern VA, also. You can get a custom fabricated heat shield, if you want to go through the trouble with it.

I have emissions checks too, but I never get a hood pop or anything. Sensor in tailpipe, sensor on cowl, and cat check... No. KY emissions.

hahah bisimoto or exospeen headers are gunna run you 500-700 bucks but they are absolutely crazy, you cant have power steering nor a/c with the bisi and cant have a/c butcan keep power steering with the exospeed. They are the same general design but the exospeed is slightly smaller

If you upgrade headers you have to go with DC Sports 4-1, i had 4-2-1 and it was good, but since i changed to 4-1 i got a good response in every asspect

Says your *** dyno (which I could calibrate with a couple swift kicks if you'd like).

Bottom line is this: Unless you spend quite a bit of money on a tuned-length header you're not going to notice a big difference. The best bang for the buck with the fewest drawbacks, in my opinion, is the AN-R header. Then again, if you like your AC and PS, it's not the one for you.

Then again (again?), if you aren't willing to sacrifice to make hp gains on your otherwise stock SOHC D-series you're probably not one who will notice the difference, so just get an eBay DC knockoff and call it a day. You can even brag to your friends that you installed it right the first time .
