If you're lucky it'll give you an extra 1-3 HP on the top-end or bottom-end, depending on which way you adjust it, but you can't have it both ways. Actually, it just takes power off one end of the powerband and puts it on the other.

Mostly, they look pretty. Most guys leave the top cover off for [ahem] easy adjusting [wink, wink]. 99% of adjustable cam gears never leave the "0" mark. That should tell you something.

Buy it for looks, not power...

Far more beneficial. On DOHC engines, the ability to seperatley tune the intake and exahust valve timing is what provides the gains you're looking for. For a SOHC, the changes are simply bumping up or reducing the power band (better top end or better low end), but of course since the intake or exahust valves cannot be tuned without disturbing the other, hp gains are typically very small by altering the static position of the cam gear.

If you ever go with an aftermarket cam it will benefit more. Also if you ever change the head gasket thickness you'll need one. say if you wanted to go with a thicker gasket for boost or thinner to raise compression.

Yes, but they are harder to setup correctly. Really, the only way to properly setup DOHC gears is on a dyno.
