I traded a exhaust I had for a edelbrock sohc cam gear. But I have no idea what year its for . Is there any way I could find out what year of car its for?

does it have a part number stamped onto it? if so, you can try searching their website for that number and see what comes back?

Re: SOHC Cam Question (TouringAccord)

nope it does not . The edelbrock website has two part numbers

Re: SOHC Cam Question (soccaian)

IM thinking this is for 96-00 sohc's due to the realtion of the keylocation compared to the tdc marks.

the y8 and the z6 cams are diffrent! they are off by like one thooth i belie!ve

Re: SOHC Cam Question (zeroracerh)

If it is a SOHC cam gear, with the round holes its a 88-95 cam gear. If it was a 96-00 it would be slotted like this one

I'd go with PEIKU he's right, cam gear all fit 88-2000 civic, Soccerking your wrong because its only the CAMSHAFT that makes it off a tooth when u install a D16Y8 96+ cam into a 92-95 Civic motor thats what makes it different

Well, while a cam gear might FIT all 88-00 civic's, the 96-00 cam key sits in a different position than the 88-95 cam gear. Its timed 3.7 degrees differently.

So technically, no, they are not the same.

Exactly...I have a Z6 cam and cam gear in my Y8...there are quite a few topics on this if you want to know more.

Tad 08-02-2004 01:48 PM

i have read that for the y8,
the only gear that is truly accurate is the aem gear.

which would be a fact that would lead one to believe that NOT all sohc gears are the same.

Re: (Tad)

i thought that the Timing belts were different also.

they are, there are many different timing belts,
different lengths.

doesnt neccessarily mean the gears will be diff.
but the belts are diff true

Re: (Tad)

the z6 and y8 are in fact slightly different and require approxamitely 5 degrees of advanced/retarded timing

NLR808 08-02-2004 04:27 PM

Re: (Art In Motion)

we couldn't figure out why my timeing was off cause i had a 96 head on a 92 block with an aem cam gear so we had to advance the timeing

you should be fine
