Default SOHC Cam gears

Does anyone know the difference between Y8 and Z6 cam gears??

I have a buddy swapping a reworked y8 head onto a Z6 block and he is trying to figure out which cam gear to use.

Thanks. I corrected my post to reflect the appropriate context for the plural gears.

I believe he'll need to use a Y8 cam gear. Not certain, though.

the y8 gear should be a advanced a little more than the z6. thats why aem offers a z6 and a y8 gear, but other companies like skunk does not?

i thought it was that the cam timing is different between the two so you would just want to retard or advance the timing to fit right.

His concern is that there is a difference in diameter which would affect cam timing. I would think he'd need the cam gear to go with the head/cam he is using.

Hmm.. I'll have him investigate that a little more, checking AEM< STR< Skunk2 to see if they offer a different gear for each of those motors.
