SOHC BLOCK GUARD?
Ok, I have been looking around on ebay as usual for D16 parts (we all do it lol) and I cam across an OBX block guard for my D16. It says it is supposed to protect against "sleeve walk" and help prevent a premature head gasket failure. Is this true and do you guys recommend it since I am pulling the head anyway to have it washed and I was gonna use the Mr Gasket stackable head gasket kit because I have a t3/t4 turbo kit on the car and I run about 7 psi. Thanks in advance!

Re: SOHC BLOCK GUARD?
noooo. catch 22. itl help the walls. but restricts coolant flow...you dont want that with a turbo motor. so dont even bother. unles your sleeving it and going go use about 40lbs of boost.
just get arp headstuds and an oem headgasket. keep it simple...trust. me every time i tried to complicate things when i did my first build i screwed up all the time

Re: SOHC BLOCK GUARD?
ok cool thanks man will do... what about the fact that some of the more expensive block guards have ALOT of holes for the coolant to flow through? Doesnt matter? Just doesnt compare to the flow of not having one? I mean I have one of those new aluminum radiators with a bigger fan and all but ur saying it really kills coolant flow and that I would only need that sort of thing if i were running HIGH boost? (like above 12-15 psi)?

Re: SOHC BLOCK GUARD?
no like real high boost like 25+ of course with sleeving.
also the cylnders need expansion at high temps. when the motor gets hot your bearings tighten up and things start to change sizes down to the millionth of an inch. metal stretchs but too much isnt good. no1 uses block guards unless you got big power and you need to hold the motor together for 1 good run...so to speek
its one of those things you dont need unless you are all out and your buying golden eagle main bolts and cam triggers, and full coil sytems and etc...
