So I just blew the **** outta my b16
So my boosted B16 @ 8psi blew itself up a couple days ago...(I'll upload pics later) but there's about a 3mm crack straight down cylinder #3 (through the sleeve and broke the waterjacket too!)
pistons are well, head is fine. So this is my next build and need opinions of what kind of power it will make.
B16 head + GSR cams on a B18C1 with B16 crank + B16 rods + GSR pistons.
It will be N/A for a while.
I was wondering what kind of power I should expect it to make...
So this is my blown B16A3
[freak]in OWNED!
Oh well, RIP my sweet B16. I definitely enjoyed raping the **** out of 8 Cylinder failures of cars with you.

Yeah....
Won't be boosting the new motor though.
I was thinking of a poor man's type-r...well, atleast, my variation of it. (B16 rotating assembly + B18C1 block + GSR pistons + GSR cams + B16 head.) And then slapping some ITBs on it and call it a day.
after I get that up and running, I'm planning on spending a couple months building a low comp B16/B18 (Don't know which yet) and pushing about 28-35psi through it with a GT35R/GT40R.
I'm not quite sure what I wanna use for the next turbo build, but I DO know one thing: My goal is to hit about 650+whp.
And this car will be useless for anything BUT going in a straight line.

I guess the 8 cylinders weren't the only failures, hehe!
I wouldn't do b16 crank or rods in the b18 block. you could always get that b16 sleeved and bring it back to life!

from the looks of it it looks like you were not running a block guard. not that it might and would had helped but you never know

if you read up on block guards, they are out dated, the idea is there, but sadly they still dont work. first off they restrict coolant flow to the upper portions of the sleeve.
and i dont think the b16 rods wil fit in the b18 block, since the block hights are different. you could run the crank, but it would take some different rods.
i would just send this block off and get it sleeved, and throw some pistons and rods in it, and save yourself a few grand in the long run

They will fit but...
B16A rods + B16A crank + B18C1 block = FAIL
OP, B16B rods and crank would work, but ya might as well just do a B18.

That makes no sense at all
and how did it blow? was it tuned properly or thrown together?
and it does look like your 4 cylinder is the failures lol

You mis quoted me...
i said it doesnt make sense for his motor buildup
and the link describing peoples preference for PW clearance on boosted applications doesnt explain it-

I'm not trying to pick a fight!
How else would you explain a broken jug, with that setup, unless the piston clearance was too tight?!?!?
Look at the good slugs...
See any hone marks?

oh, I meant to say b18 full bottom end.
I just need to replace a rod bearing or two.
and slap on my old b16 head + gsr cams.
And yes, I think it blew due to a bad tune.
Also, is it really possible to bring it back to life? Cuz it cracked the water jacket too....

neither am i, but i would bet its due to detonation

If it hasnt cracked more then 1/2 way down it can be sleeved

Re: (jasony0630)
if ur gona go ahead adn get it sleeved, dont- why waste your time with the b16 block when you can go all the way and do 84mmx89mm for the same price?
