So I have a 2000 Si in the driveway, should I buy it?
Long time lurker, first time serious poster.
Car I am coming from......
2003 Cavalier Base coupe
Ecotec 16 Valve
Cams, I/H/E, solid mounts, lowered, etc......
I work at a local Honda dealer, and have for almost 2 years. Over that time, I have grown to appreciate a quality car. So I am at the job today, making repair orders and I see a Electron Blue Civic Si in the used car lot. I immediately am smitten.
After running around, I tell the GM I want it. After one more errand, I come back and he asks if I wanna drive it home......to you know check it out.
*Duh*
So I am out with this car, has 36K miles on it, well maintained so far as I can tell.
First warning sign, I think it has been lowered, but hell I can see any sleeve-overs or coil springs. The car has been debadged.....no Si.....in the grill or in the rear (its stuck to the dash....which I quickly removed and ditched).
Has PART of a AEM CAI. Filter is obviously used and on the short length of piping.
I can see where the lower piece goes, but its missing. Leaving the upper part to flop around.
I look it over and the car is good to go so far as I can see. Stock exhaust, wheels, and good body.
The drive goes as this.
Accelerate....no torque......BAM...power! Repeat.
Handling is amazing compared to the car I drive now. Braking is awesome. I really have a **** eating grin right now.
The good ol B16 is in good shape. Clutch pedal is loose? Squeaks? The shifter has been modified with some *JDM* ****. It doesnt fit right, and the shifter boot sags leaving a 2 inch gap between it and the ****. I havent put it on the lift so I can comment on that. A/C is cold, windows work, sunroof ( *woot* my first) is smooth.
Despite all the poor attempts at modding.
I am in love.
I know all the obvious things to look for and some Honda ones in particular.
Question is this? Anything you Si owners or Honda guys (girls) can enlighten me to?
Its raining out, so I cant tell.............is this a EK? EG?
Thanks for the time!
Chris

you couldnt be any more right about this lol. We call it the "no torque wonder." like most honda motor you need to be in the higher rpm's to get any power out of it...but is it fun to drive

I cant remember right off how much they have in it. I am going to get a deal I am sure since I work there.
God. I just looked around for parts as a time killer till the SO gets here. Are parts always this dirt cheap for Honda? Granted I am looking on ebay.....so I guess yes. Anyone wanna recommend a QUALITY shifter and boot kit?

Yeah. Rag on it all you want, but the Cav has that in spades. 150 ft lbs stock..........all the crap I have too......it pulls pretty hard.
The thing that impresses me most is this. The build of the car. Things snick into place like they are supposed to. It just fits. I have seen 91 Accords with 300K miles with LESS rattles than my 03 cav. The build quality is amazing. I cant stress that enough.
I know I am screwed now. I find myself looking out the window at it. *sigh*

Re: (QuikJaysun)
Good investment woudl be a security system.
Also just an FYI, the term "EK" is generally used to refer to any 96-00 hatchback. It is in fact NOT correct. The EK chasis is substantially different from teh USDM "EJ" chasis. Different driver setup, different weld points, EK has more bracing....its kind of like saying the chasis on an ITR is the same as on an LS. The correct term for a USDM 96-00 hatch is "EJ6". Not being a jerk, just sayin....

Yeah I heard about these cars getting stolen. In my area though, car theft is like non existent.
Family is law enforcement so I would hear about it.

And for a short shifter/shift **** i'd msg "EvasiveMotorsports.com" on this website.. i bought a combo short shifter, skunk2 shift ****, and a energy suspension bushing kit for 95 shipped. I'm very happy with the setup. and it looks great with the shift boot i posted above.
Good luck with the car!
