Re: Snap off steering wheel.....yes or no? (Halo)
no experience, but i saw a guy at one of the schools i was at who had his steering wheel off his car so i assumed he took it with him. i guess it could be a deterent to maybe like amateur thieves or something, but if ur car is nice enough that they really want it, i would think they could just come with a steering just as easily and pop it on. thing that always was on my mind about this: unless ur going in ur house, wherever else you go you'd have to like bring a seperate bag just to carry a steering wheel. i always thought that was kinda a hassle. just my .02 tho

quoted from their website:
"The street-legal Street version is meant for regular driving. Each Snap-Off Street system is unique so no one can break into your car and snap their steering wheel onto your steering column and drive away. The quick release mechanism automatically locks to your car's steering column when you snap it on so there's no chance of the wheel coming off while you're blasting down the freeway. ISO 9001 certified and TUV approved".
According to them, each street system is unique

Re: Snap off steering wheel.....yes or no? (Halo)
I had one in my car and I have to say it is the best you could get. People could always bypass the alarm system...no matter what kind you have. The ****** also seem to have their ways with the Lo Jack as well. BUT without a steering wheel, you can't drive the car away. And YES, each system is unique meaning the bolt pattern is different on each system. So someone can't JUST snap on a steering wheel and drive off.
The system is also built very solid. There was no freeplay on mine where the wheel meets the hub. The only downside to the system was the horn. The way they designed it was they made a tiny hole on the hub so the horn wire could pass thur, but everytime you turn the wheel, the wire would snap off.
anyways, over all, the system is the most bang for the buck you could get.
Also, don't go cheap on the steering wheel. Get the nicest one from them the first time. A MOMO or Sparco wheel will NOT fit since the Steering wheel pattern is different.

their prices are very reasonable, it's been something i've been considering for a while now, it just seems like a strange thing to walk around w/ your wheel in your hand though...

Also, a thing that I would also like to add is their Customer service was cool. They answered all my questions, and shipping was fast.

no, i dont think its a good anti-theft device. right, u cannot put another steering wheel with the snap-off device, BUT, u can take off the snap-off device on the steering hub and put another steering wheel on. its just 6 bolts to take out.

Wrong they make an adapter that fits for use of Momo steering wheels, and maybe Sparco would fit also?

yes...they do make the adapter, but that would add another 1 1/2 inches to the steering colume.
About the taking off the snap off unit with the 6 bolts, the kits comes with some dead bolts that u plug in after the install, once those are put in, the unit can't be taken off unless you drill the sucker out.

Sounds like a good deal to me! Is install on this stuff pretty easy for someone that knowsj some stuff on mechanics, or would I have to take it to a shop?

I have one on my 92 hatch, looks, feels and works great! To steal the car you would have to drill out the bolts, and then have another steering wheel to put on the car to drive away. My whole system (wheel, hub, locking system) only cost $250 shipped from them. Great customer service too...I did not get a couple of the bolts and they sent extra right away at no charge. Basically, I wanted a steering wheel anyway, so I figured what the hell, get the whole system for the price of some Sparco wheels go for.

Re: Snap off steering wheel.....yes or no? (Vanilla4215)
oh yeah, install is easy...just a 19mm bolt at the center of your wheel hub...then some hex bolts (12) around the steering wheel and hub. There is some wiring for the horn too....but not 100% necessary IMO (unless you get tested by a cop or DMV).
Be aware if you have air bags though....might be a pain in the ***. I would assume disconnecting your battery would be fine though. do a search.

I would say yes. I have thought about that particular wheel for some time, but there are airbag concerns you may want to address.

When you want to steal a car without a steering wheel, even amature thieves know to bring a set of vicegrips to steer the car with.
