Smoke under hard acceleration
i recently took a 1,200 mile trip in my civic out to NJ from MN. It traveled the whole distance fine besides the fact that i needed about 3 quarts of oil. I do see smoke coming out of the exhaust when i really stomp it down and redline in each gear. The car has 172,000 miles on it. But i do not see how i go through that much oil on the highway because at normal speed it doesn't have smoke. Thanks for any help.

Re: Smoke under hard acceleration (steve123)
I have a 94 civic dx coupe. 1.5L non VTEC. 172,000 miles. So you think the rings are going bad? **** that is not good. how much longer can i drive it hard like that, and should I replace those or just buy a new engine. What engine should i buy if I should swap in a new one. Thanks

First off, what color smoke is it?? If you ask about doing a swap, its all about how much you want to spend, and what you want to get out of it.

Re: Smoke under hard acceleration (G3NR8)
It is a darker color smoke. Only in the high rpm when the pedal is all the way to the floor. Thanks again for any help.

"now me and the mad scientist have to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried"
in a serious note...u should not be redlining a 172,000mile d15b7...

Re: Smoke under hard acceleration (JDMisGOOD)
like the quote, but the engine still does not have problems redlineing besides it burning oil, so should i stop and replace the rings or swap in a new engine like i have been planning on? how much longer can i run the engine like that before the whole thing craps out on me?
