Smog Help Please, Another Failed High HC Reading B18C1 - 00 EK
Sup folks,
Could really use some help getting my car to pass smog. I recently purchased my 00 EK hatch off another member here a couple months ago. It has a 98 GSR and the car is BAR’d. Passed Visual but failed emissions due to high HC’s. Member told me he passed smog exactly the way it is in April.
Crower1 Cams
MSD Ignition & Blaster 2 Coil
AEM Intake
DC Header
Magnaflow Obd2 Cat (looks new owner claims
2.25 Inch Piping
Stock Axle back muffler
Tried smogging twice already but second time with a brand new primary o2 Sensor. Now Im thinking of swapping to an OEM Cat and Header than replacing the OEM GSR cams. Thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Both times it failed due to high HC readings:
(Latest Readings with new o2 Sensor)
Idle:
HC PPM : 465
C0%: 0.65
RPM 754
C02% 13.5
02% 1.3
N0 PPM 94
Under Load:
HC PPM : 104
C0%: 0.80
RPM 2563
C02% 13.8
02% 0.8
N0 PPM 168

GsR cams would help. any non- stock cam will be more effecient at higher RPM's. I am from NY, but I know a decent amount about emissions. Your Hydrocarbons have to be under 400 at idle correct?

now he did he bar the car when the motor is older than the car??? i thought when u had to bar, the motor had to be the same year or newer

I had the same problem. I had to reset my timing (the belt and the dizzy) just so I could get it under 100. Also one of my plugs were not firing at all. That is where i would start. Now is that at both 2500 and under 1200 RPM.

EMT thanks for the advice. Before changing anything else I should probably try the timing and my plugs,dizzy etc. Is that all you had to fix to bring your HC's down?

Forgot to answer your question. Its really high under Idle, about 465 at 754 RPM.
At 2500 RPM it measures a little over 100.
At 2500 RPM it measures a little over 100.
