Smells like fuel.
Okay I have a question and I'm not sure if anyone wants directly know the answer but I'm going to give the full scenario. I have a d16y8 swap into a 91 chassis and a few months ago I paid someone to wire in an obd2 to obd1 wiring harness adapter. Turns out he may not have entirely known what he was doing and he had to put a dummy switch on a wire dealing with the o2 sensor. I recently ordered a chipped obd1 ECU from phearable.net. before I got this ECU I was having the smell of burnt fuel coming through my exhaust and a slight bit of white or grey smoke when I really got on the motor and I was also smelling the smell of fuel sometimes in the cab of the vehicle. I attributed this to the fact that I was getting an o2 sensor miscommunication and over pumping fuel into the vehicle. Well the new ECU was supposed to cut the o2 sensor out entirely and just give me the proper blend of fuel and air according to the mods on my motor. I have a regulator on my ATM fuel rail that I had set 238 psi and I thought that was appropriate. Well even after the chips obd1 I am still experiencing some sputtering at low idle and the smell of fuel. I am no longer however smelling the burning fuel at extremely high RPMs. I'm wondering if I need to regulate the fuel flow myself through the regulator by turning it down if I do I'm wondering how to appropriately turn down the fuel flow to where it is consistent with the amount of air I'm taking in. If that's not the issue I'm wondering what the issue may be and was hoping I could get some feedback on the forum. Thanks

So I researched the fuel pressure and I tried to adjust it correctly. But I can't open the regulator any more and 40psi was all I could get. What really doesn't make sense is that I thought I was pushing too much fuel at 38psi. Apparently I should be at 43psi. Confused :-/

Stock injectors as far as I know. I tested it by removing the vacuum line from the intake during idle. The psi spiked accordingly. But was unable to open the regulator far enough to get over 40psi.

So even if the motor is a 96 then I would refer my questions to b the 91 forum? Or just questions pertaining to the 91 and any issues with the swap?

So if I'm not leaking fuel (which I'm not) then I should try the filer next, followed by the regulator?
But why would I smell fuel when I drive sometimes? Wouldn't a lack of fuel prevent that from happening?

Well the CEL is flashing briefly on and off in sparatic fashion. So I guess I'll see if the code can be read tomorrow. But I had phearable.net disable my o2 sensor on the chipped obd1. I'm wondering if the wiring issue I stated could be the cause.

Yes very rich I think. But the fuel rail guage is showing a lower psi than recommend. It's a brand new liquid filled guage. Is there any way of adjusting the regulator correctly by sound or feel? Can I close it until it shorts the engine and work my way back up?

The wiring issue is that I had a guy put my obd0 to obd1 adapter harness on who claimed to know what he was doing. Turns out that he only kinda did. He had to put a dummy switch on two b wires related to the o2 sensor. I don't know enough about electronics to give much more information on that. But we plugged a stock obd1 ECU on to get the vtec solenoid working and it did. It has run rich since then.

And forgive my ignorance but why would they offer the option to disable the 02 sensor if I need it? I assumed it was because it would give a better fuel/air mix with my mods.
