Check for an exhaust leak.

Is the Catalytic converter gutted? I found that without a catalytic converter I was getting exhaust smell in the car a lot, while sedan's and coupes never seemed to have a problem? Once I installed a Catalytic Converter, my exhaust smells went away.

Seems the hatch rolls a pillow of air behind it that traps exhaust gases. When you stop that pillow flows over the car towards the front and gets picked up by the fresh air intake and the sun roof/moon roof and front windows when open.

If you don't find any leaks but have a test pipe, this might be your issue.

Also check to see if all your firewall grommets are seal or if any are missing
