small rocks in valves..?
bought a b16 motor off a friend and he told me he dropped small rocks in the valves........
-_-;
i know its kinda strange that someone would take the valve cover off and somehow drop rocks in there by accident but.. can someone tell me what procedures need to be done at the shop to get this problem fixed? and a rough estimate of what it might cost? thanks in advance

oh ****...lol.... i'd go get that checked out asap. its somewhat like 300 to take the head off and look at it... a new head gasket will be needed, so thas like 60...... just to give u an idea.

If the engine has not been run this is not a huge issue. Remove the head, take it to a machine shop and them wash it (tell them what happend, they'll probably run it through the parts washer a few times). You will need a new headgasket, head studs or new head bolts, valve cover gasket set, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets. Another thing to consider is if any of the rocks fell through an oil drain back hole down in to the oil pan. Just to be on the safe side I'd pull the pan and clean it out too.

Can small rocks be formed by poor maintenence? Like carbon rocks or something? Not sure but someone told me it could be that. Also, how much would a job like that cost? To clean it out and test it? Also, would now be a good time to consider doing a piston & rod job? Thanks for the help fellas

You would need to take off the valve cover and look at it.. But worst comes to worst you'll have to take off the head and clean everything out. A piston and rob job is up to you, but its gonna cost a good penny. Does it run like crap? VTEC still cracking?
