Default SLURRRRRPPPPPPP

hey, sorry for the werid tite. anwayz, i'm kinda a newbie here. i know this topic has been killed here over and over, however, i just want a true factual definite answer. OK, here it is, i'm planning on getting AEM CAI for my stock civic. i mean stock engine and stock height. now, i live in seattle, WA or everett u can say. Do i need to worry bout water getting sucked up? i'm NOT going to get a BYPASS VALVE or short ram, so thats out of the question. Now, should i just forget about the intake or is there nothing to worry about? ALSO, HOW MANY PEOPLE HERE HAVE ACTUALLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEIR COLD AIR INTAKES AND WATER GETTING INTO THE ENGINE? sorry for the long post, but this is a seirous issue for me. thank you.

Price of bypass valve shipped to your door=45 dollars
Price of low mileage D16 engine to replace one that has hydrolocked= roughly 700 dollars+cost of installation and shipping.

well, my boy just got his car back from a fully built turbo setup because he hydrolocked his '00 SI, and insurance hooked him up pretty good.

you would have to be a complete dumbass, and drive your car throught a puddle deeper than your bumper level to even worry about hydrolock....get the bypass if you are worried.

no way...he was probably to embarrassed to tell you the truth....or did some dumb **** like cut out his splash guards...I had an AEM CAI on my civic a while back...drove through some monster puddles, and never had one peep of a problem.

screw the d series engines. get yourself a b series and start your stuff out right. bolt ons arent going to give you much power. but if you are just trying to make your engine look cooler then fine. but, i say dont waste your money on bolt ons. I did that in the beginning. Then I came to this site and learned a hella lot of info. thanks to all for all the help. soon i will have my b18c, and i cant wait. good luck with your car.

everybody keeps talking about AEM CAI's and bypass valves.

did anyone hear that they recalled them because they were breaking apart and getting sucked into engines? sounds a little worse than hydrolock.

I'm I nuts? I swear I heard this...

yeah, "heard" that AEM had problems with the bypass valves falling apart and getting sucked into the engine, guess the foam wasn't built tough enough or something. My buddy has one on his Si, no problems with it. Not sure if they recalled them though, but also "heard" that they are putting out good ones now.

As far as hydrolocking, I never worried about it up in greensboro, but down here in wilmington it'll flood in many areas after 2 inches of rain, guess 2 inches of rain=10 inches of water in many spots. But I did take my intake off after the first hurricane I experienced 2 years ago just because you can't always avoid water in this area. You just have to use your own best judgement on running a CAI or not, and your own judgement is to blame if you hydrolock your engine, don't blame it on AEM or the board, because it is up to you...

hey if your that worried about it. pull apart your intake tubing, take off the bottome half. the part that goes down into the fender will then comes up on the other side. and run some drier tubing from the stock air box, down to the opening on the side of the front bumper. that way your filter is still at the top of the engine bay and you have nothing to worry about. jus a sugestion, and put in a k&n filter, honestly i think that works just about as good as a intake, makes things look stock, and you have nothing to worry about. just my $.02

Look dammit dude. If youre so concerned spend 50 bucks and get a frickin bypass valve. geez -- a air intake is not a life or death decision.
