Default Sluggish at low RPMs...

When I pull off from a complete stop, my car is really sluggish and I have no idea why. It's fine over about 2800rpm but below that it's just aweful.

My car is a '99 Civic EX with a y8.

I need some ideas as to why it's doing this.

has it always been like this?
when did it start doing it?
was there anything that happened prior that could have caused this?

What size wheels do you have? I have the same car, and had the same motor...it was always lacking off the line its a D series...but when i put my heavy *** 17's on it was really really bad...if you have stock wheels and no mods and it has always been lacking chances are you are experiencing the awesome power of a D

check all the normal tune-up stuff first, esp. ignition system and ignition timing.

oh, also these motors are always gonna be pretty weak in this rpm range, unless you have a small turbo or some other good low range power-adder

OPFTL, shouldnt be that bad, if everythign is stock, and no heavy *** behaatches riding dirty in the back, then it should be decent.

I know mine sometimes acts up and i have low power in the low rpms, but then sometimes my gas pedal gets stiff, and suddenly i can get past those 2800 rpms in like <1 second. Tune up, timing and compression.

When I had I/H/E on it it was sluggish but not too bad.

When I put the 15g GReddy turbo kit on it it got a little worse. A few weeks after having it boosted, my extended o2 sensor wire got snagged in the axle somehow and go torn to shreds and I've been running without a primary o2 sensor up until now.

Now it's fully built with Vitara/Eagle H Beams (8.6:1 compression ratio) and it's just as sluggish at low RPMs as it was with the GReddy kit. I even had the o2 sensor wire fixed but I'm getting a high voltage CEL from the primary o2 sensor.

Am I correct in saying that since I basically don't have the primary o2 sensor, my ECU is running in limp mode, thus causing the fuel injectors to run wide open all the time, therefore once the revs get up and catch up with the output of the fuel injectors, everything is dandy?

I'll be putting in a chipped p28 before I fire it up again, so hopefully this will help.

you know what a rich condition does to a catalyst. CAN YOU SAY MELTED!!! but if you had a clogged cat if you are even running one and have a primary in the hole but not hooked up then pull it out and let the exhaust breath through the 02 hole it will more than likely run better but I got water in one of the o2 conectors one time and all it did was spray a bunch of fuel and melt the cat and clog the exhaust try that and see if that works (if you are even running a cat)

im sure you would notice your car was a little quicker if you took off your stock si rims and put some light rims on like 14/15in rotas... our (if your stock like your name says) b16s have what, 5lbs more tq then a d16.... I noticed a difference when i took off my stock steelies and put on my slips....

To the OP: Do you have any cels?

yea they do, if u looks at a coupe with 14 inch rims...it looks cheap. hatchback is acceptable since their smaller, id say at least 15. do they make lightweight 16's?

Not only do they slow you down, but they also give you a horrible ride. Not worth it unless you are stuck in the early 90's.

I was gonna say the same thing, you need a vtec spool-up shot, its like a spool up shot for big turbos, only yours just gets you into the mAD VtAK PoWA band.
