Slotted vs. Cross-drilled Rotors

The car is a 1996 Civic EX 4-door with all stock brakes and wheels. I have heard that slotted rotors actually shave off the brake pads and makes them wear out faster. So if i wanted to upgrade my rotors for a street driven car, should I just get drilled rotors and upgraded pads. It seems like my front rotors overheat/warp rather quickly for a street driven car. So I am looking at ways to extend the life of my front rotors.

thanks
Matt

If you are warping the rotors then you should try and not brake as hard as you obviously do. If you're going for the look then ok, otherwise, you don't need such things to stop better. You can always try different pads or upgrade to factory Honda equipment from a teg. This will be more than enough braking power.

I had the same problem, I would warp my front rotors ever 3 months. I upgraded to slotted and drilled rotors. I have not warped those rotors in 2 years. they lasted longer than my pads. the stopping power feels the same, but under harder conditions they stay cooler. well worth the money IMO

the slotted rotors should not help you run any cooler. The cross drilled on the other hand should help you out. Or, you could just stop driving like a dumb ass. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Brembo blanks work just fine, and I haven't warped those ones yet. It's usually driving habits that warps rotors. Give yourself time to stop https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Just get some better pads. Crossdrilled/slotted rotors won't help all thjat much. If you really need to cool down your OEM civic brakes maybe take off the dust shields or just rig up a little brake ducting.

Slotted/cross drilled rotors are not worth the money $0.02

If you really need more stopping power upgrade to GSR 4 wheel disc https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

I guess i'll start looking into a GSR swap then. I'll need something to fill out my new wheels. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Thanks for the tips guys
