Slighty built...
Ok, taxes are on their way, and I want more power from my d16y7. How can I make more power, and about how much power can I expect to make out of a d series WITHOUT forced air induction??? Don't need a whole lot just would like a little more pep..

Re: Slighty built...
By the way, I already have an aftermarket 4-2-1 header installed. I've also considered a mini me y8 head swap, but I've been told by a few of my Honda peeps that I'd be better off sticking with the high compression y7. Keep in mind I do NOT plan on going turbo.

You could probably squeeze an extra 8-15 HP all motor add on items such as a cam / a quality intake/ proper tuning ect...but over all you will probably pay more for that 8-15 hp than what building a basic turbo kit cost......N/A power don’t come cheap. 90% of bolt on items are more about the looks and a placebo effect than power itself. Most of all motor power comes from raised compression, and that’s probably not a option for you, I bet a buddy of mine has 3k of add on items to his car and he has probably gained 12-18hp and plenty of tuning

The y7 will never be fast nor will any d series. But the y7 is like the worst. You said it, you have a header on it right? Good keep it on there. That’s about the most beneficial thing you can do without spending a lot of money on minimal to no gains.
B series or just be content with driving a car with a motor that is not performance orientated or powerful or even the chance to make more power at all.
I’m only talking from experience, just save your money, on something that’s more important imo. It’s a waste to really throw any money at that motor than regular maintence. I wish I had the money now I spent tryna make my d series fast.
If anything. Save the money that you were going to mod it with, clean the car up sell it and get something with a b series in it from factory not a swap.

Two ways to make a Y7 faster....
- Swap for a B series
- Do a little turbo kit. Although the max HP a Y7 will handle with turbo is about what a B swap could get you.

Re: Slighty built...
I have considered a b swap. Being somewhat new to Honda's, and working on a budget, what b motor would make the most since to swap in my 98 Civic? B18?

Re: Slighty built...
For time being I think I'd be happy with a stock b20. From what I've researched, the b20b which is an obd2a is pushing around 126 hp stock, and the b20z which is obd2b is more like 148 hp stock... My car being a 98 is of course obd2a, so how much harder would the b20z swap than the b20b? Is this where Integra ls intake mani would come into play??

Re: Slighty built...
You just use an obd2a p75 integra ecu (I forgot to mention) or I suppose the stock crv ecu, I'm not sure how they compare since my b20z is in an eg with an obd1 ecu.
You use the ls manifold regardless because the crv one has either an awkward 2 piece manifold or the tall p8r which doesn't fit under the hood rumor has it. As always, do your research.

GSR might cost more than a B20 but it's a worthwhile investment. The 20's are weaker out of the box, non-vtec, and won't handle boost if you ever decide to go that route later on.

Re: Slighty built...
**** it, why not go ls1 twin turbo it. Then down the road add another ls1 in the back. After that put blowers on both. If that ain't enough sell it and buy a veyron.

Re: Slighty built...
There are no cheap swaps. Even a b20 swap on a budget done right will cost over $1000
Enjoy the car for the absolute cockroach that it is. You realize a stock new Toyota Camry is faster than a b20 swapped civic

With a B16 trans (in my b20z hatch) I don't know if there is really a point doing a vtec head swap for daily driving.

I don't know what you mean by done right but I bought my junkyard b20z for less than $150. I bought a whole LS swap (axles and ecu included) for 300 because it was cheap. I used all the accessories from the engine which had a blown head gasket because I needed the obd1 parts. With an intake manifold gasket, oil and spark plugs I was under $500.

Re: Slighty built...
Thanks everyone for your input, I love gaining a little knowledge. After what research I've done I think I definitely want to go b20z, unless I run across a b20 or b18 incredibly cheap first. Still have no idea what tranny I should be hunting though. Would the stock CRV tranny be any count or should I at least be hunting an ls tranny?
Also, I seen a b20 swapped teg at my local Pull A Part last week, didn't pay any attention to the tranny bc at the time I wasn't really hunting a swap. Anyways, I shy away from previously swapped motors just bc u never know what kind of janky *** 'mechainic' work these billies do here in NC. Just throwing it out there that I did see one. Lol
