skunk2 vs, ground control!!!!
ok guys im looking for some coil over, i already got tokico 5 ways. Now ive got a b18c motor in my 96 coupe and the standard spring rate on g/c coilovers for my car are 344front/ 250rear, but i want somein little beefer, i know g/c offers custom setups. But anyway what are the standard spring rates on skunk2 coil overs for my car. And i know ground control makes quality stuff but i heard skunk2 isnt bad either.
what is your guys take on skunk2!!!

I like the Skunk2's. The people that tell you they don't like Skunk2's are the people that ride on stock struts "tuckin tire y0". Skunk2 uses 6K/8K (330/440) springs rates. With KYB AGX's and you car lowered about 1-1.5" you should be pretty pleased with it. People cry about the locking perch system. It's not that bad. Ground Control's great though because you can call and talk to those guys and they will set you up with the custom rates you desire for your needs. Skunk2's are not bad if you find a good deal on them. If you are buying new, might as well just get GC's.

ok another question, im just getting out of my 240sx and suspension setup on those always have stiffer front rates and softer back rates being its RWD. Now that im in a civic, i notice for FWD setups people some time have stiffer front/softer rear or softer front/stiffer rear, and sometime the same rates front and back.
Now what should i do? i was thinking about 400lb front 310lb rear?? i want a quite stifff firm ride, but not an all out 100% percent race feel if you get me??
i need to keep my tires on the road, the type r motor just roasts them!! haha

Re: skunk2 vs, ground control!!!! (Mr Milano)
put the stiffer springs in the rear, it'll stiffen up the back and it'll help w/ the chronic understeer some
have skunk2s on my civic...rides pretty nice w/ koni yellows on full stiff...the only thing i dont like is higher rate springs are $100 EACH.

If you use OTS struts run 300/400.

Re: (SleepnCiViC)
ground control, you can get what ever you want as far as spring rates go. plus ground control is a bunch of rad guys. never liked the design of skunk2 with the dual locking perch thing. plus gc uses EIbach spring bad *** spring.

Re: skunk2 vs, ground control!!!! (SleepnCiViC)
i have a 96 coupe w/ b16, listen to my story.
had original ground controls, in the same rates you mentioned. lived with it for 4 years, great ride, no issues.
i too recently wanted a stiffer ride for track (not 1/4 mile, real track) so after coming across some used skunks super cheap, i went that route. it turned out they were the 400/300 version (old), not the 400/500 version (new). i lucked out a second time and found someone selling a used pair of 400# skunk springs. i am now running 400/400, sold my gc's, and made $50 profit all told.
-perches - skunks are not that bad, if you have the right tool. gc's were never one hand adjustable (i dont care what the ad says) so it's the same process to change the ride height.
-springs - the ers springs from the gc's look nicer and have a better rep, but it's hard to tell a difference once they're on your car.
-ride - i really needed the stiffer spring up front with the heavier motor, feels much better. rear is certainly stiff, but again that's what i was going for.
summary: i think the ots skunk2's (400/500) may be a little harsh for daily driving. you can get gc's custom, but you can order cusom springs from skunk2 also, check their website. the spring from the gc comes from a reputable manufacturer, and spring & perch have lifetime warranty. and great support - they just mailed me a set of four new urethane mounts for free (i didn't have the heart to tell them they were going on my newly acquired skunks). i would have preferred to go gc, but i saved money by going the skunk route, but since i came across some sick deals, that might be unique to me.
if and when i go all out race car, it will wear koni's and ground controls. period. but for right now, i really, really like my 400/400 skunk2's.
new skunks willl run you ~$275. custom springs from gc are $60 per spring. you could just order a pair of say ~400# from gc, put those on the front, put your fronts on the rear, and see what you think.
whew. good luck. i have to get back to work. om me with any other questions.
