sohc_mshue and I installed my skunk2 cam gears to go along with the skunk2 stage 1 cams i have. After the install was finished we messed around with the cam timing a little and set it at +1e -2i. We also bumped the ignition timing up to 18. So after all was done we took it for a spin. Right away I noticed that the low end felt strong but the top end felt like ****, were it used to pull real hard. All I am running on my car is i/h/e the skunk2 stage1 cams, cam gears, ITR valve springs and retainers, and some NGK blues. Does anyone have an idea of a setting i could set it at to gain that top end back?? I guess the way i set it just gave me all the power down low and that is not were i need the power. Any help would be greatly apreciated. TIA

Try retarding the cams each in 1 degree at a time. Matching the ign timing for ever different setting. Start out at 0, 0. Work your way back retarding. Sounds like your cams are too far advanced.

Tell sohcmshue to stop messing with duals and head back over to sohchonda. Lol

LOL yeah, thanks man for the help I will deff try that. How do you set the ignition timing according to the cam timing, like should the ignition timing be retarded if the cam timing is being retarded and the other way around?

If you retard the exhaust cam, and advance the intake a little, the opposite should happen, you'll gain some top end, and lose a little downlow. Set the timing back to 16 or 17.
But why would you want to try and tune these on the street, w/out a dyno or a wideband, or something to give you an accurate reading of what changes you're actually making, good or bad?

Thanks for saying that BUT i was planning on getting that done after i get a few more parts in. Im just looking for a good setting for the meanwhile

im in the exact same boat as you. just installed some stg1 cams and im running like ****. sooner or later ill hit the dyno but the nearest one is 4 hours away.

I don't mean this in a derogatory way, but continuing to bump the thread at this point honestly isn't going to get you any better answers. The best suggestion you can get has already been given -- dyno tune the setup. Anyone else who recommends specific timing numbers is guessing at best, because no two motors will react identically to the same settings. For now, I would simply leave the timing at 0,0 until you are able to properly tune at the dyno.
