It's obviously a wiring issue. The tach worked prior to extending wires?

Sometimes the tach just goes bad, on my 92 EH3 I had to tap the cluster to get the tach to register, swapped out the cluster with a VTi and problem solved.
So if your sure the wire is good from the dizzy to the cluster plug, than that would be my guess.

Then I agree with grumblemarc, it's gotta be in the wiring. Did you test the tach signal wire? or just a visual inspection?

Is that at the signal wire pin on the cluster connector?
