Default Simple Question about piston rings

If my car has blowby from bad piston rings, would compression in the cylinder be low?

hmm... well I got 170, 170,170,170. There are some times when I first try to start up my car that it chokes up and doesn't start. But instead makes a weird noise and exhaust gases come out of the intake.

I'm trying to figure out if it's blowby from the rings or if its from bad ignition timing.

if the piston rings are bad

u should be burning oil

does blue smoke come out of the exhaust

No. White smoke does though. not really thick and excessive. but a good enough amount of white smoke comes out to notice it when reving to like. 6-7k

Were you ever able to get that ignition timing checked?

Do a leak down test to both check the rings and if its the head gasket.
Sounds like like it might be a timing issue, though. How do you know exhaust is coming out the intake though? You mean like an after market short ram intake?

cyclone - damnit... i was hoping you wouldn't read this thread. I knew u were gona ask that if u did. lol.

Well no, i didn't check it yet. I didn't do the iacv unplug thingy. I worked all day today and i can't work on the car at night cuz my mom is sleeping lol. yes.. my mommy..

I'm doing it tomorrow for sure htough, but i was just concerned about it so I thought i would just try to figure more info out.

exhaust gases coming from the intake could never be bad rings...
if u think about how an engine works, uve got the 4 strokes
intake, compression, combustion, exhaust

intake takes in the air.. compression compress that 'clean' air.. combustion gives the spark at TDC, and exhaust pumps the left over out the exhaust

if u have exhaust coming out of your intake, your exhaust and intake stroke are overlapping eachother.. make sure your timing is fine... your compression leaves out the possibility that your valve is sticking.. so most likelythe timing.. i doubt your ignition timing is off..

hmm.. you have a good point about the rings.

The thing about the timing is.... I set the crank pulley to tdc mark and line it up to the notch... and when I do that I stick a rod inside spark plug 1 to make sure it's actually TDC and it is. and then the cam gear also aligns correctly to the tdc marks.

if your timing was far off your compression numbers wouldnt be that high

I'm everywhere on this board, lol!

It is off, I was posting that from another thread of his. I wanted him to fix that problem before continuing onto anything else, or possibly buying any new parts.
