simpl;e maybe even a stupid question
If my timing is off will it affect my compression, cuz i checked mine today on my d16y7 and i have about 132psi iin the outer cylinders and about 100psi in the 2 inner cylinders and my motor has onl 53k miles on it. The reason i ask if the timing will affect the compression is that my brother had messed with my car while i was out of town for the weekend and i just happened to be installing a aem tru time cam gear i came home and my car wouldn't even start and i had to eyeball the timing as good as i could, and i am positive it is not perfect. My chiltons says 178 psi nominal 135 psi minimal, so i am pretty worried.
Thanks

Distributor timming can not effect static compresion. As for what is really wrong, I am not going to make any uneducated guesses towards that.

How many times did you do a compression test? and did you insure the vechile was warmed up prior to the testing? and did you notice if the gauge shot up to 132psi almost instantly or was it a slow build to 132? more info would be helpful

Re: simpl;e maybe even a stupid question (IM ALL BOB)
it slowly built up to 132 psi in 2 of the cylinders and same but 100psi in the other 2 cylinders

I had a similar problem, could be one of two things did he take off the dizzy? If so the timing can be way off and will cause a no start, also did he mess wit the timing belt? Cause My timing belt was off a tooth there my cams where not TDC wit the Crank, readjust the belt and put everything TDC and car started right up.

Re: simpl;e maybe even a stupid question (civicrtype)
yeah i aligned the crank and cam tdc with my eye, but i was also outside in alaska working on my car which isn't very desireable, but at first my car wouldn't start, now it does start but i can definetly tell there is a substantial power loss, but i plan on redoing the timing today and i'll kep ya posted if it helps any, hopefully my valves didn't bend whenb i tried to start it the first time
