Si vs Ex

Yeah, it's pretty straight forward, the search has me a bit bewildered as I can't find much of anything from it so plz don't flame me for that...

Basicaly it's simple, from what I hear the 92-95 Ex had the D16Z6 and the Si had the same, and I know the 96-99 Ex had the D16 in it also, I'm not sure what the Si had though... My question is simple...what's the major difference between the Si and the Ex.... I feel some peole are going to say "the Si is a hatch and the Ex is a coupe" but I'm pretty sure I saw more than one Si before that was a coupe...so I'm kinda confused up to hell, if the Si did come in a coupe, the body style pretty much looks the same...what's the diff?

Sorry if this sounds real dumb to u guys, but if it does, plz just try to refrain from flaming me :-\

schardbody 04-19-2006 12:58 PM

92-95 ex and si had D16z6, 96-99 ex and si had the D16y8. 2000 ex has the D16y8 and the si has a B16a.

No

92-95 ex and si (I'm pretty sure the Si was not made all 3 years) had the d16z6
The Si was a hatch in this generation and the ex was a coupe

96-00 ex had the d16y8 this came in a coupe model
99-00 Si had the b16a2 this ONLY came in a coupe model

The mechanical differences between the ex and Si in 99-00 was the engine, stiffer springs, and rear disc brakes on the Si. Other than that they are exactly the same.

schardbody 04-19-2006 01:05 PM

how was i wrong, everything i stated was 100% correct. i didnt specify whether or not each year was avail as hatch or coupe because while looking for one say a 92 coupe si he wont need to worry about this info because he wont find that vehicle. all the info i put was correct.

^ He's right but they also have an EX Sedan from 96-00 with the d16y8 as well as 92-95 with the d16z6. Most EX Sedans from 92-95 were canadian models with rear disc brakes!

No it wasn't. You said that 96-99 there was an Si and it had a d16y8. First there was no Si in the 96-98 years and the Si started in 99 with the b16a2. Good try though.

Re: Si vs Ex (Syndacate)

1992-1995 civic si (hatchback) d16z6 - 125 hp
1992-1995 civic ex (coupe and sedan) d16z6 - 125 hp
1996-2000 civic ex (coupe and sedan) d16y8 - 127 hp
1999-2000 civic si (coupe) b16a2 - 160 hp

there was no si coupe, and no ex hatchback, in the eg and ej body platforms. simple as that.

you were wrong in the sense that the Si was offered in '99 as well with the b16a2.

The Civic year models are...

<87
88-91
92-95
96-98
99-00
01-03?
04-05?
06<

The differences between 96-00 models were headlights, tail lights and some interior stuff as well as OBD2a and OBD2b

The same goes with 01-05 models. I wasn't exactly sure of the headlight change between these years though.

I don't think there were any different options on the 99-00 Si as opposed to the 99-00 ex other than maybe ABS but even still those are rear here in the states.

I was under the impression that the Si was not available with ABS. Only the EX had it as an option.

Re: (SOHC4life 96)

If anything, the Si would have the better chance of getting an ABS option than the EX although I have seen a few 92-95 EX coupes and sedans with ABS.

sohcvtec1995 04-19-2006 01:26 PM

i have never seen a ek coupe/sedan or si model with abs. but u have seen the Eg ody with it..

Yeah one came into my shop a while back for an oil change. It was a EX sedan, '94 I think. The EJs (96-00 coupe) was offered with ABS as well as the 99-00 Si, it's just very rare to find one that has ABS.

Si's have the B16, but other than the motor shit..

Actually, you're wrong too. In canada, there was an Si in 96', and it did have a d16y8. Nothing that he said is technically incorrect.

Good try though.

well, the 99 si being a B16 is the part i said wrong, it was a typo or brain fart.

The EJ8 (96-00 ex) has a sunroof as well, and cruise control. Those werent only on the SI. The EJ may have the leather shift knob too, but im not sure because mine is a lame automatic.
THe SI also has the hefty 26mm front sway bar, and different front lca's to accomadate it, versus the EJ 22mm front.

You're wrong about the seats. I've got EX seats with Si headrests with the same exact pattern on the headrests as I have on my STOCK seats. I had a buddy get me the headrests from a Honda JunkYard in Alabama. I don't think the leather steering wheel and shift knob was an option, pretty sure they were standard. My '99 EX also has a sunroof, factory, and cruise control, factory. Pretty sure that ABS was an option and discs all around, front lip and bigger sway bar were standard as well. :shrugs: https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

He never mentioned canada. If he had I would have stated that the Si in canada was equivalent to the US Ex and the canada SiR was the same as the US Si. Shut the fuck up before you really get put in your place.
