Default si trans vs. type-r trans. differences?

the 2000 si i just purchased from some douchebag on ebay has a busted trans and needs to be replaced. they want 1400 for a si trans and new clutch kit installed. would i be able to find a si trans for cheaper? also, i may be able to get a type-r trans, used, from another friend. what are the differences between the two transmissions?

A ITR tranny will run you $800-$1400 used, a si tranny (depending on year and lsd) will run you $300-$800. These are just rought estimates, i'd suggest finding yourself and used tranny and installing it yourself. You can always have a buddy with experience help you out.

differences between ITR and Si trans, ITR has slightly shorter gears and has a better final drive. Also the ITR (U.S spec/JDM spec, Si jdm spec has LSD a option) comes with LSD. Research a little before you go ahead and spend $1400.

The USDM ITR/96 spec JDM ITR/CTR and Si trannies have the same exact gearing and FD.

I depending on where you are you can find a decent b16 tranny for 500. But if I were you I would go with a unit from a JDM ITR if you plan on going all motor. You can find them for something around 1300. **** Im looking for one myself.

this is just going to be my daily driver to keep miles off my truck. im gonna do some bolt on's (short ram intake, throttle body, intake manifold, header, high-flow cat and catback and maybe some plugs and wires) but not going all out. just using it as a fun car for fuel economy. are the internals any different between the trans' (what the components are made of)?

Someone detailed it in the ITR forum a few years ago. If I remember correctly, the ITR trannies have multiple synchos on some of the gears. They also have a different ring gear pattern.

Yes there are differences between the transmissions. They are few but significant in their own ways that vary from gears, final drives and limited slip differentials. I am unsure of the exact specs but if you are interested search on here or google and there are charts available that highlight each attribute.

USDM and JDM ITR trans both come equipped with LSD, a JDM B16 MAY come with LSD depending on which one you find. but an SI trans, no LSD. If you're going for all motor, go with a JDM ITR trans.
