si tranny in a dx
my buddy threw in a 95 si tranny into his 95 dx. he says it feels a lil sluggish when he throws it into 2nd and that his rpms seem to drop lower than his old dx tranny. anybody have experiences with this or the same dilema?

Re: si tranny in a dx (ghettols)
the rpms won't drop lower if he went from DX to Si gear box.
1-2 shift at redline will drop to 3700 rpm in the DX tranny
1-2 shift at redline will drop to 4000 rpm in the Si tranny.
BTW DX redline is 6800 rpm.
DX to Si tranny will lower et's by .3 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

note that power was still climbing (barely) when I hit the 6800 rpm limiter. I MIGHT have got 120 to the wheels.
BTW the motor had 120,000 miles and was never apart. It had about 300 drag passes on it + 3 season of autox.
Running tiny 175/50/13 Yok A008II's on the street the then new 99 Civic Si's (stock) were not happy.

Re: si tranny in a dx (Mista Bone)
mista bone...
thanx again for all your info...
he bought the car used. we think the previous owner had nitrous on it. it was just lowered, had a blue toggle(nitrous switch) and had a cam gear(no cam though, but timing was advanced), plus it had some dorky yellow wires and yellow engine cosmetics, oh well.
is the sohc manifold hard to install, any extra parts needeed>>?
anyhow though

Re: si tranny in a dx (ghettols)
just drove his car right now and i gotta say it seemed slower than the dx tranny. i don't know too much about cars, but on the side of the tranny, there's writing in yellow meanstreak that says d18b. any ideas??

Get a tach and get me some speed readings @ 3000 rpm in first 3 gears.
The intake just bolts right on. The 1.5 man. is easy to get off, the 1.6L a pain. The center lower bolt is almost impossible to get at.

Removing the oil filter helps a lot. Just shove your hand up in there until your knuckles are lightly lubricated with blood, then you should be able to reach the bolt. ;-)
