Default is this an Si for sure

Looking at a '97 Del Sol with 36,000 miles. It does not have any stickers on the back other than del sol. Engine code says VHN1.6VJGKEE. Any way to tell if this is an SI for sure?

Thanks,
Kirk

You could look at the engine code instead of the VIN # (i think thats what u looked at) and see what it says or just look under the hood. And r u hoping that it is an Si for sure cuz i would be hoping for the VTEC model which is DOHC b16 and the Si is a SOHC d16 but NEwayz thats the difference. And if u pop the hood and it is single cam and it doesnt say VTEC at all on the valve cover then it is an S model. That should help. Later

My valve cover doesn't say VTEC on it but it's a D16y8. I suppose not all Si valve covers had VTEC on them.

If you look under the hood, you should see that it's either a SOHC or DOHC. If it's a DOHC, you have a B16. If it's a single cam and the valve cover says VTEC then it's an SI. If not, then it's just a single cam S. Your motor is newer so the valve cover should have VTEC on it, if so it should be the D16Y8 if it's sohc vtec. Hope you find out what you bought

93 del Sol Si's came with the D16Z6 having a black valve cover with an H badge. (this is the best looking IMO)

94&95 Si came with the D16Z6 saying VTEC on the valve cover.
96&97 Si's came with the D16Y8 saying HONDA on the valve cover.

Only way to tell is by the engine code & or looking for the vtec solenoid.

del slow vtec: b16a
92-95 civic ex/ 92+ del slow si: sohc vtec, and only SOME of them say vtec on the sohc valve covers, regardless if they are indeed vtec motors.

Seems to be an Si since it has a 7200rpm redline and that EH6 in the VIN is supposed to make it an Si. I will look at it again today to check these other things but after driving it, I am sure that it is not a S and pretty sure it is not a VTEC.

Thanks,
Kirk

First what is the price on it, that usually will tell you if it's a VTEC or not.
So are you looking for a VTEC, or an Si?
VTEC = 1.6 DOHC 94-95 B16A3 96-97 B16A2
Si = 1.6 SOHC 93-95 D16z6 96-97 D16y8
Both have vtec, one is just a DOHC and one a SOHC. The VTEC model is what is usually sought after.
4 wheel disc brakes came on all of the Si's and VTEC models, and had the option of ABS begining in 95.
The VTEC redlines at 8100 and the SI I believe at 7400.
What you gave looks like part of the VIN #. If you have the whole VIN# I can tell you what it is.
:edit: You say it's EH6?

EG1 = Civic del Sol, 1.5L
EG2 = Civic del Sol VTEC 1.6L
EH6 = Civic del So, 1.6L
So yes it's an Si

Wrong.

The only SOHC Del Sol with "VTEC" on the V.Cs will be the 1994-1995 models.

1993, 1996, and 1997 will not say "VTEC" on the V.C, so you're wrong in saying that if it doesn't say VTEC it's not VTEC.

The 1993-1995 had the 125hp SOHC VTEC D16Z6 motor while the 1996-1997 had the 127hp SOHC VTEC D16Y8 motor in them.
