Si rebuilt block, burns oil fast
I just got my civic 00 si block rebuilt.
The problem is its burning oil at a fast rate.
Is this due to the new pistons? Is this normal
until the pistons and rods get worn in?
Any help will be appreciated.

oil may be getting into the combustion chamber due to excessive piston to wall clearance caused either by missing pistons rings or piston rings that are wrong or installed incorrectly, there may be other reasons why your motor is burning oil i would def contact the person or shop who rebuilt your motor and let them know your issues

I'll drive less than 100 miles. Check my oil the next day, half would be gone from a full dipstick.

thats way too much oil to be losing..i had bad rings in my last y8 and if i floored it as much as i could through a tank of gas i would burn about 2 qts...every 310 miles....

it could also be that the cyl bore is slightly too large for the pistons used. hopefully that's not the case.
it could be valve stem seals also, but with losing that much oil, I'd be looking for leaks if you don't have a cloud of smoke every time you step on the gas.

Also are you sure you are burning it or is it leaking?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Theres no white smoke or any kind of smoke coming from the muffler. Also, theres no leaks what so ever. I think it has something to do with how the shop did the rebuild, I'll definitely take it back to the shop.
The car drives fine but has problems with burning tooo much oil.

Re: (civicSF98)
who built the motor????? Did you have to go oversize on the Bore of the cylinder walls?? If so did you get bigger pistons?? Did the peron who built it set your ring gaps right???? Did you break it in right so your rings would seat???? did you pull the head and get new valve seals???
And if somebody else built this motor (assuming you took the right amount of time to break this motor in) I would be PISSED!!!! b/c an engine builder should know better!!!

Yes the guy had to bore the cylinder walls and add bigger pistons. And did whatever he had to do to rebuild the engine.
What do you mean by, "break it in right so your rings would seat"?

LOL.. there is white smoke in the morning when i start it up, but not much. And you can smell something from the engine, so I guess thats the oil.

sounds like you are leaking somewhere and it's burning off but only when it's running and not when it's sitting. or it's leaking somewhere that you can't see easily.

So the main problem is the block itself?
