SI(EM1) Strut Difference?
Hey guys
One of my rear struts is leaking on my EM1. So therefore it needs to be replaced.
I am thinking of getting a OEM Honda One. Since I don't got the bucks for a set of aftermarkets.
Here is the problem.
OEM Honda Strut New from Honda for all Civic models but SI (EM1) = $130 CDN
OEM Honda Strut New from Honda for a SI (EM1)= $220 CDN
So what is the difference? I heard or read somewhere that the struts on the EM1 are progressively valved? Anybody confirm that?
I can get a used regular civic strut from the Auto Salvage for $60. The Auto Salvage computer does not show any diffrence between any model of civic. I would love to do that because cash is short right now.
Question is can I get away with putting a regular Civic Strut on my EM1?

i wouldn't replace a used shock with a used shock especially if its from a junkyard. you don't know where its been or how long its been sitting in the weather.
buy 2 new ones on ebay for the same price and call it a day!!!

Yes this is the main difference between the SiR/Si struts and Si/EX struts. Call around and get some prices on the KYB GR2 struts, they are a good economical replacement, but you will need to buy 2. If 1 strut went it probably won't be long before the other one goes especially after you replace the bad one. If you don't have the money at the moment but will in like another month or so I'd just drive on the leaking one for now untill I had the money to do them both.

I can get the GR2's for $180 CDN a piece.
That sound like a good price?
You have the KYB AGX right? How does the KYB stuff hold up compared to OEM?
I realize they have a lifetime warranty but if I'm going to spend some bucks I want to get something that is going to last.

I think you should be able to find them for closer to $150 a piece cdn, have a look on ebay and see what you can find.
I use the KYB AGX's and really like them a lot, they are a Japanese comapny and have certainly earned their place in the world. They also make a lot of shocks for motorcycles etc. Their warranty is excellent and we use to install a lot of their brand of shocks on customers cars at the shop and never had a problem with any of them ever. They are an excellent OEM upgrade for a really reasonable price.
