should i be worried?
im looking at buying a block its been sitting for a year the outer cylinder walls are looking a little rusty. id plan on building the motor and dropping it in im just worried about the time it has sat

Well, I'd take some PB Blaster or WD40 with you. Spray it on and wipe it with a cloth. If the rust wipes off almost completely where you can see the shiny cylinder wall, you should be OK. IF the rust stays there, the block will probably have to be bored as a hone will probably make it too large to use that size piston again.

take it to a machine shop and let let them put it in the cooker and clean it up and it will be ok. they shouldnt charge you any more than 150 at the most and you know it will be clean.

If it's where the coolant flows (water jackets), I wouldn't be too worried. could be they just never flushed the coolant. If the actual cylinder walls are rusted, that's when you need to be cautious.
