should I retighten my head bolts on a D16y8?
Hi everyone!
I will be doing a calve adjustment tomorrow and I was wondering if I should retighten my head bolts obviously to the specification torque. Car is a 98 ex and i am pretty sure it has the original head gasket on it. Thanks! |

im gonna be posting up some arp head studs later on if interested...
how many miles on the car? |
Re: should I retighten my head bolts on a D16y8?
Car has 130.000 miles. I just junt to know if its safe to retighten it without having the head removed and not even changing the original head gasket.
I will just take a torchometer and use the rwcomented torque in order to check that all volta are tight enough. Thanks |

You can check but I see no need to tighten them as they're probably still fine.I haven't heard of ppl doing this.

Re: should I retighten my head bolts on a D16y8?
I think I have a bit of oil going into my colant and some coolant going to my exaust?
Sintomps: 1- Radiator cap has kind of a sludge in the tip below 2- My coolant seems to be going somewhere, I have to refill my reservoir once a month (aprox) Engine is pure stock with 140k miles. I was thinking that retightening the head may help this to seal better? |

Don't tighten any bolts you didn't loosen.
If you're losing coolant get some color in there to check for leaks. Also if you think coolant is leaking into head area you'd know based on froth oil in the oil pan. I don't even know how coolant would get into the exhaust. Why do you think this? Is it making a smell? If you tighten something that you didn't loosen you have a chance of cracking the gasket. Use a good torque wrench if you REALLY have to but I'd do diagnostics before hitting anything |
