Default Should i get a universal or direct fit cat to fit my setup?

What's up HT,

I have an EM1. I recently bought a racing header with a 2.5" collector. Replacing my stock cat with a Magnaflow high flow cat but i have no knowledge on which one i should get.

I was planning to get a direct fit but i have no idea what size the flange is on the direct fit. I'm assuming it's stock. But what if i'm adding a racing header? Do i get a universal instead?

I really don't want to do any welding. My setup is going to be like this:

Toda Style Racing Header 2.5" > HFC > Stock exhaust

What can i possibly do to not have any welding done and get these to fit properly? It's been bugging me because i want to do it correctly and i have no idea.

Thanks in advance.

The only HFC's i've seen by magnaflow require welding as they don't come with a flange. so you might end up having to weld in which case universal won't matter(so long as it's 2.5 in).

Direct fit and if you have to have flanges put on then get them welded on.
Make it a direct bolt up!
FYI HFC doesnt equate to more HP.
You live in Cali so make sure your cat is smog legal before you buy it.

random technology makes legal high flow cats.. ive been running one for years with no problems. they also are direct bolt on no muffler shop needed

Just an observation, but I'm assuming you're planning on doing cat-back after?

That may work.

I know it doesn't but i've heard that if you have a racing header, it is a good idea to replace the stock cat with either a test pipe or a HFC to prevent restriction.

How much did yours cost bro? Did you have a header also with a different collector size?

How much horsepower do you think you'll free up if you alleviate this "restriction"? Not enough to be noticed. You have a 1.6 with no torque to speak of. Put the stock cat back on.

Agreed if it's for a d16 not worth the money spent. b series yah there's a difference between cat and testpipe but save you'r money for something else.

yeah i left my cat on with new headers and exhuast and saw no difference without the cat so keep it on and stay legal!

no point in being a "ricer" for no reason

Thanks for the advice guys.

I might just go with my stock cat then.

When should i decide to switch to a HFC though?

And just to be clear, it's okay to have a racing header with a stock cat?
